    1. [COBoulder] Re: Charles Knapp
    2. Hi Bill, The Longmont Genealogical Society has published a book and CD-ROM of tombstone inscriptions at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. (If anyone is interested in ordering visit our website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~colgs. ) Charles Knapp is buried in Block 6 Lot 21 Space 03 and the inscription reads: "KNAPP, Chas L /____-____/Co I/15 ILL Inf" Block 6 includes several military markers of Civil War veterans around a flag pole. Although there are no dates on his tombstone, it does say that he served in Company I of the 15th Illinois Infantry and you could try to order his pension file from the National Archives. I did this recently for my aunt's grandfather and it was a gold mine! Jane Adeline KNAPP is buried in Block 35 Lot 104 Space 04 and her inscription reads "KNAPP, Jane A 1851-1913." There are twelve other KNAPP tombstones listed on the CD. Write to me off list if you'd like me to send them to you. Harry Ross Longmont, CO

Surnames: Nordstrom Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XY.2ADE/757 Message Board Post: Hello! I'm really hoping someone on this board might be able to help me. I live in the Chicago, IL area and know that several of my ancestors are burried in Lafayette Cemetery. As far as I understand it the city clerk of Lafayette maintains the records for this cemetery and I have tried several times over the past year to get information on my ancestors. Each time I email or leave a phone message I get no response. I was hoping that someone in the area might be able to do a lookup for me at this cemetery. I'm looking for internment records, purchase records, photographs of the headstones (and the cemetery in general since I might never get to see it for myself and I'd like to know what it looks like) and a map of the cemetery if there is one. If anyone would be willing to help me with any of this please email me and I will give you the information I have on my family that is burried there. I would be more than happy to return the favor in anyway I could through research in m! y area and would gladly pay for any costs you might have. Thanks!

    1. [COBoulder] Frances E. GOODELL, 1841-AFT Feb 1904
    2. Mary Smith
    3. I've discovered the following additional information about Mrs. Frances E. GOODELL (maiden name unknown, but possibly CULVER or HOPPER), whose last known residence was Ward, Boulder Co.: Although an Elizabeth Frances GOODELL is buried in the same Hot Sulphur Springs Cem., Grand Co., plot as Frances E. GOODELL's married daughter, Lillian Grace TOVEY ARMSTRONG, the date on GOODELL's tombstone says died 1903. In fact I have found Frances E. GOODELL's signature on a 9 Feb. 1904 deed in which she sold her Ward, Boulder Co., property to a Jerry SULLIVAN; therefore either the woman buried in Hot Sulphur Springs is a different person, or her tombstone was erected many years after Frances E. GOODELL's death by someone unfamiliar with her exact date of death, such as Lillian Grace's second husband. I mention this because in the past I have cited 1903 as GOODELL's death date and I know it has appeared on some online data list (although regrettably I can no longer find that website). Mary C. 1. [COBoulder] Cucamonga
    2. Re: Your comment, "Funny, I always thought Cucamonga was a made-up word. I learned something!" I am as interested in the history of words as I am in the history of people. Your comment sent me looking for the translation of Cucamonga. I initially presumed it to be Spanish, but I could not find a translation for it. Here is what I found on the City of Rancho Cucamonga website: The Native American cultures of southern California had stabilized some three thousand years ago, thriving until almost eliminated by European invasion. Over twenty linguistic families with close to one hundred thirty-five different languages characterized this culture. By about 1200 A.D. the Kucamongan Native Americans established a village-like clustering around the land mass we know as Red Hill. The Kucamongan people were part of the Gabrielino culture, and anthropologists believe that, at their peak, the Gabrielinos existed as one of the largest concentrations of indigenous peoples on the North American continent.
