While I was looking on the internet for my father who is interested in the genealogy of our name Cnockaert, I found your question. CNOCKAERT is a name that occurs in our regions and almost only in this region : Flanders in Belgiumn, not far from Ypres. We have found a small number of people with the same name in France, but the major part of the Cnockaerts is living in Flanders. It must be hard to pronounce the name in English. We have found an ancestor in England, Colchester (sometime around 1565). In our family, we are : Guy, Anne-Catherine, Françoise and Christian Cnockaert. Greetings from Flanders. The Cnockaerts

I am inquiring about Ruth E. Marshall (born:March 7, 1898 and died: September 20, 1972). She married Eli N. Shirk (born: April 7, 1892; died: May 6, 1981) on November 5, 1921. An interesting fact was they were deaf, and I am tracing the family trees in regard to this. Was Ruth the daughter of Daniel Marshall and Margaret Heller? The birth place was in Nothumberland, PA: sounds like it might be however I would not committ to that unless I know for sure. Any help would be great. Sincerely, Debi debrashirk@hotmail.com

I am not a subscriber to Ancestry.com, so those databases aren't available to me and I haven't had time to get over to the Family History Center with this new information yet. Wharton K. Gray was in Boulder at the time of the 1920 census, so your information placing him in Denver County during WWI is new to me. Thank you also for the historical info about Arapahoe County; I didn't know what the relationship between Denver and Arapahoe County was. If there are any other tips you can provide, I'd appreciate it. I'm new to this, so I'm floundering a bit. Kathy

Kinsey is in the 1870 census in Denver Township, Arapahoe County, CO? This part of Arapahoe County became the City and County of Denver around 1901-1902. So you should definitely look in Denver and Arapahoe County. I am going to attach the image of Wharton J. Kinsey's Civil War Pension index or application or whatever. It's really dark so I don't know how useful it will be. Best of luck! - Karen

Surnames: GRAY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XY.2ADE/377.1 Message Board Post: Kathy, maybe you need to look in Denver County. On ancestry.com, I found Wharton K. Gray in the Roster of Men and Women Who Served in The World War From Colorado 1917-1918, Denver County. I suppose it's possible that Wharton only enlisted in Denver County, but unless you have him placed in Boulder I don't know why we'd find leads here. Given Name: Wharton K. Surname: Gray Rank: Sergeant Branch: Infantry Place: Denver Since the Social Security Death Index lists Wharton's mother's maiden name as Kinsey, you're probably right about the link to Illinois. There are a number of Wharton Grays out there, but probably not so many Wharton Kinseys.

I have found records for Wharton Joseph Kinsey (b. about 1840 in Illinois) and an association in a probate index between him and a Nellie Gray in Denver, CO, in the 1890's. I feel certain the names are too unusual for this to be coincidental. W. K. Gray married Harriet Taylor Brace and was also known as "Uncle Bud" by his wife's nieces and nephews. Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated.

I have also found Joseph, Cyrene, and Charles B Farwell (son and my 2grandfather) in the 1870 Census in Amboy, Lee, Illinois. The ages and states of birth match here. Do you have any ages or states of birth on them in Colorado? Cyrene Died in 1872 in Gold Hill according to a cousin...I don't know where she got the info...Will check. Joseph died and is buried in Amboy, Illinois March 5, 1975. Will check with cousin for confirmation on that one too. Cyrus sounds interesting as there is a C.D. Farwell in North Dakota listed as a brother in my 2grandfather's obituary in 1909. Thank you so much for your time and more pieces to follow up in the puzzle. Robin

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XY.2ADE/372.2.1 Message Board Post: Robin, I saw a Michigan query where you mentioned a Joseph Farwell. There is a Joseph Farwell in the Colorado 1870 census in Greeley. There is also a Joseph H. Farwell in the land records at Township 5 North, Range 64 West. This is just east of Greeley. Not sure if this is your family, but thought I'd pass it on! And the plot thickens... The Boulder Public Library lists a J. H. Farwell in the expense receipts 1875-1879 of the American Consolidated Gold and Silver Mining Company. They had a mine near Gold Hill.
