    1. [COBoulder] Delapidated Old Louisville Cemetery / Superior Cemetery
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XY.2ADE/504 Message Board Post: If I may start my little soapbox speech with the quote from the Colorado Tombstone Photo Project Web page - "Show me the manner in which a nation cares for its dead, and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land and their loyalty to high ideals." - William Gladstone I've been looking for the Old Louisville Cemetery for over 25 years. I was afraid it was buried under condos. Now I believe the empty field I was given directions to in 1979 was it and I didn't realize it. Just found a 17 March 2002 article in the Daily Camera about it - http://web.dailycamera.com/extra/prairiedog/17lcem.html . Apparently its modern name is the Superior Cemetery off a dirt road from Dillon Road on the west side of U.S. 36. Says there are 57 people there and I believe 3 are mine (Jane Carlton buried 10 Dec 1891, Thomas Carlton died 28 Jan 1892 & David Carlton buried 21 June 1892). And it says there are gravestones there, although all knocked over and broken. Seems there was a "disagreement" between Superior & Boulder County as to some restoration costs. That article is almost a year old - Does anyone know the status of the effort ? Is there anything (besides sending $82,000) that we can do ? Would a mail/email campaign be of assistance or be a hinderance ? Could an agreement be reached between several parties to share the cost ? It is in Superior, was known as the Old Louisville Cemetery, probably contains 1 or 2 from Lafayette & Marshall , and I hear Broomfield is big enough now a days to be it's own county - as part of the succession agreement with Boulder they should pay some. And while it sounds as if the Superior Historical Commission is spearheading this, tell me this isn't a perfect project for County & State Historical Societies/Commisssions. Is this what we want the world to think of as our "tender mercies...and...loyalty to high ideals" ? David ps As the article says the attack of the prairie dogs "may sound ghoulish, 'but that's reality' , " but it continues "others say they want to return a sense of respect" . I join the others.

    1. [COBoulder] Berkley Photo c.1920
    2. I have a photo from about 1920 of a family of 13 that I can't identify. There are two others there who are my ancestors - Robert Griffith & Ann (Carlton) Knowles. The family members appear to range in age from 75 down to about 4 ; 3 to perhaps 4 generatons. >From family groupings (girl 10, girl 9 & boy 3) it could be a Berkley family. Would love to identify and would love to share (got a couple of photos of this group scanned in). David

AARRGGHH Ref: Louisville Times & Louisville Library I have a booklet "The Louisville Story" by Carolyn Conarroe, copyright Louisville Times 1978. On page 44 is a picture of the Methodist Church (guess ca.1910). It is noted as "Photo from collection of Louisville Library". I would like to get permission to copy, from the booklet or the library collection, the photo. My ggg-grandfather was the early (unordained) leader of that church. I want to bundle it with a photo of the church I took in 1992 and with a copy of the "Incorporation" papers I received from the Clerks office and post it all to the Boulder GenWeb site. I can't find a listing in the library catalogue for a photo collection. Has it been transfered elsewhere ? Possibly to the Carnegie ? Thanks for any help David

I am searching for Alma Carlson as she may have been my Great Grandfather's sister. Alma may have had a brother by the name of H. A. Carlson also known as Henry Alexander Carlson who lived in Boulder from the early 1900's until almost 1920. Henry ran a grocery store in Boulder. Henry and his wife Hilda had 3 children Lorraine, Archibald and Ica. If anyone knows anything about this Carlson family Especilly Alma would you please contact me. Until this past week I have never found a trace of Alma Carlson and so this Alma Carlson may or may not be the Alma I am searching for. Thanks in advance to any help I may receive. J. Olson P.S. Another place to search is obituaries/death certificates from late 1914 to 1918 as if this is my Alma she would have passed away before April of 1918 because her mother Anna Regina Carlson's obituary states that all 3 of her daughters which would include Alma were deceased by then. Anna died at the residence of her son David W. Carlson in AZ on April 22, 1918 at the age of 96 years. Living to the old age of 96 was almost unheard of in those days!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XY.2ADE/494.1 Message Board Post: Kimberly, I am not related. But I have copies of 3 books of newspaper extracts that Mary McRoberts did. One is : "Boulder County, Colorado / Marriages, Anniversaries, Divorces, Births and Birthdays / 1859-1900 / Newspaper Abstracts / Mary McRoberts / Boulder, Co/July 1991" Another is : "Boulder County, Colorado / Deaths and the Insane / 1859-1900 / Newspaper Abstracts / Mary McRoberts / Boulder, Co / July 1991" And : "Genealogical Abstracts from the Boulder Daily Camera / 1891-1900 / Boulder, Colorado / Mary McRoberts There is a reference to a Rev. England (spellings were fluid) officiating at a burial in 1875 ; and a mention of a Mrs. G. A. England whose sister, Miss Clara P. Lyon, died 24 Jan. 1875 (It says "From Hampton, CT where buried"). Nothing on either family afterwards. The Boulder County Clerks Office online index - http://icris.co.boulder.co.us/search - has some headings that suggest George A. England died between 1883 and 1885. At the same site the only Kringel marriage certificate listing between 1900 and 1950 is John C Kringel married Helen K. Mclaren [filed] on 1 July 1912 [book 338 page 330]. At the same site the only activity for Englund from 1900-1950 is John & Amanda Englund. More for England but none of the names you mentined. The Boulder Genealogical Society site ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~bgs/ ) has the Columbia Cemetery records on line . It has one listing for a John Englund (24 June 1861 6/2/1934 [location] C101-14 R3). Nothing for England or Kringel. Now, not all papers survived and not all events were recorded but to not have an obit for a Minister surprises me. And while the Boulder groups have made excellent progress in listing graves some have been missed. But to only find one listing again surprises me. John may have been a son / uncle who stayed. But I srongly suspect everone else moved to another county (or perhaps even another state) soon after 1875. They still had property in Boulder and when the Rev. died c.1884 it was settled in a probate elsewhere. Hope this helps, David
