Pauli, In the email I sent yesterday I shot from the hip and was ranting and raving a bit. Although I don't like Carnegie Library's photo policy either, they don't have anything to do with the Louisville Library. Those photos are "owned" by the Louisville Historical Museum. They "don't have a policy for scanning from a book", so scans are not allowed. They don't allow downloading from the Library. And copying is $14.00 for a 5x7 up to $30.00 for a 16x20 ; and if there is no available negative, you have to pay an additional $14.00 and the negative is their property. When I asked for permission to use I'm not sure (even after 3 or 4 exchanges) that they understood what I wanted to do. You'd think they'd have a policy to allow exceptions for nonprofit use. Anyway, that's why I sent that one email suggesting a link to the Louisville Library and the instructions on how to bring up the photos. It was a little difficult to navigate and I thought some might get frustrated trying. David

The Louisville library does not "own" the originals ; Carnegie Library does. And their cost for reproduction is far from nominal. I have the booklet and can do the scan but they won't allow it. I understand their need to raise funds to pay for costs ; but I feel their policies are 1. exorbitant and 2.unfair to nonprofit/free use/common sharing. All I wanted to do was scan a picture of the Louisville Methodist Church c.1910 and place it next to a picture of the church I took in 1992 ; and then just post to Boulder GenWeb ! They also have a picture of a Methodist Ladies Group c.1910 and 5 of the 14 are my people ; and I can't use it ?!? Old photos are a money making division for them. Now that I have all that off my chest - I recommend the best compromise is a link to the Louisville Library photo collection. It is fantastic ! David

They should be able to tell you who actually ownes the photo. Since the book actually lists the library as the owner, maybe you should start there. Contact them, let them know what you want it for. If they still have the photo, it is probably in their archives in the form of a pic from an old book or leaflet. Most libraries will reproduce items such as this for free or for a nominal fee. I'm not sure what the Louisville Libraries policy is on this. Pauli Smith - Boulder County Gen Web Coordinator http://www.hollyhockfarms.com/coboulder

Hi Everyone, I have set up a community adoption page where people interested in a particular town or community in Boulder County can "adopt" it and create a web site. If you don't have webspace available, RootsWeb will supply free webspace for GenWeb Town Coordinators. To see what is available and read more about what is involved you can go to: http://www.hollyhockfarms.com/coboulder/communities/communities.htm Thanks! Pauli - Boulder County GenWeb Coordinator

Hello, Leona Gustafson has finally realized she is not Superwoman and can not do a Thousand things at the same time. Therefore she is going to retire (?!?) and only (?!?) do a Hundred things at the same time. I would like to express my sincere appreciation and thanks for all the help she has given, and all the work she has done, for the Boulder site. Thank you Leona. She has also successfully accomplished what is one of the hardest tasks of all in any organization - the smooth and effective transfer of authority. Again, thank you Leona. The new webmaster for Boulder (and Weld) is Pauli Driver Smith. My initial dealings tell me I am going to enjoy dealing with Pauli as much as I enjoyed dealing with Leona. Pauli posted the following message to the Boulder mailing list ; and with permission I am posting to a number of boards to insure the widest possible audience. "Hi Everyone, My name is Pauli Driver Smith and I am the new Boulder County Coordinator for the Colorado GenWeb Project. I am busy trying to update the current pages, and transfer the site to it's new location. I'll let the list know when the new pages will be available. As soon as I complete the work, I will be looking for submissions of photos, data, and links among other items that will help make our Boulder the best possible source for your genealogical and historical research. Thank you, Pauli" I hope everyone will pitch in and help make this a great resource for all Boulder County families and descendants. David

I have been doing research on the family for more than 15 years. Two of my 2nd cousins (also great-granddaughters of Griff and Jane) have been doing family history research as well. We have quite a bit of information which we would be willing to share. Jennie was Griff and Jane's oldest daughter born in 1857. Their other children were: Catherine (Nell) born in 1861, Llewelyn (1862), Evan (1866), George (1871), Florence (1874), and John (1876). Llewelyn was my grandfather. Griff and Jane were both born in Wales and came to Wisconsin with their families. They were married in Wisconsin and went to Colorado in the 1860s. One of the first places they lived was on the homestead originally held by Joel Estes in Estes Park. The book A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains by Isabella Bird gives information about their life since Isabella stayed with Griff and Jane and their family. They lived in several other places in Colorado before setting in Jamestown (Jimtown) and running the Evans House Hotel. I do have pictures of the hotel. One of your other queries referred to Pincher Creek and the Smith family. I just callled my father who is almost 92 years old and he says that Jennie and Dexter Smith lived in Pincher Creek. The other Smiths that you listed are Jennie and Dexter's children. Are you related to Jennie and Dexter?

[phone - 303-499-1657; they do not list an email for the commission. I certainly can't get there in time, so tonight I'm sending an email to the Town Hall - townhall@townofsuperior.com- and asking them to pass on to the Commission]...The Town of Superior has an inventory of the burials there, and they have a list that may be able to help you find out about your relatives." And finally "Thank you very much" people of the Superior Historical Commission - great job ! They've been working on it for 2 years now ! David Knowles
