Hello all, I recently came across someone whose cousin had a photo album of unknown origin. They are guessing that some are from their family of McQuoids. However, I can positively identify 4 of them and believe I can make a very good case for all the others. I believe them to be Carltons, Birketts and relatives. The problem is they are very poorly notated. Almost all have a photographers mark, so we know where they are from. A few from the east but the rest split between Boulder County and Cumberland County England. She has posted them to the DeadFred site - http://www.deadfred.com/ (by the way, a nice site to share photographs). If you go there enter Birkett in the Quick Search box. It will open a 2nd window with the photo in it and on the 1st window it brings up a page of remarks. If you scroll to the bottom of the 1st window there is a link to see all photos. That will take you to a list of about 30. I would greatly appreciate if you would look and see if you recognize anyone. Regards, David
I know this is off topic but I would like to warn others of a known scam. I just received an email from - genseeker@san.rr.com stating they had one of my lines in their data base. It is a known scam that resurfaces periodically. In the past people have paid the fee and gotten nothing, zero. Would hate to see any good Boulderite get taken, David

Hi David, I am not the list admin for either the list or the message board, Ed Black is, however since I am the admin of the Boulder County GenWeb site and also run several other boards and lists, I think I can probably answer some of your questions. Since I am not the list admin, I can't tell you how many there are on this list. When the message board is "gatewayed" to the list, as is the case with this list and most of the other county lists and boards, all the messages posted on the message board should also posted on the email list. There is no filtering program that weeds out some messages and not others. However, this does not work in the reverse. The messages posted on the list, do not get sent over to the message board. So if you are a member of the list, one of the benefits of belonging to the list is that you do not have to check the message board everyday to see if there are any new postings. The disadvantage is that to reply to a message that has been gatewayed you have to click on the link and manually post to the message board. Just hitting reply in your email program will not let you reply to the actual message, it will only post your reply back to the Boulder list. If the person who posted the message on the message board is not a member of the list then they will not get your response. Clear as mud? <G> One other note, one of the Rootsweb servers was down for about a week about a week ago for repairs. Any messages posted to the board during that time might not have been sent onto this list. To access the archives you can go to the following. You can also find links to the archives on the Boulder County website. Search archives: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=COBOULDE Browse archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/COBOULDE/ Your last question as to whether or not there has been a "My Interests" call on this list, I don't know, but I think it is a good idea. Hi, I'm a little confused about this list and have a few questions. 1.I'm no expert at how things are gatewayed from a board but this list seems to get spotty listings. Can someone explain which messages on the board end up here. 2.Just for general reference who is the listadmin ? 3.How many are on this list ? 4.Is there a list archives and if so where ? 5.Has a "My interests" posting ever been done ? Thanks David Knowles ps: Carl(e)ton, MacClean, Trimble, Knowles, Marriott, Williams, Dutton, Stoiber, Birkett, McDonald, Autrey, Andrew, Schaeffer, Stobart, VanArsdale, Clark, Laughlin, Burt, Cowdery, Grey, Harris - everyone related in some way to Thomas Carlton who emigrated to Boulder County from Cumberland County, England about 1877.
In a message dated 4/10/03 10:19:50 AM Central Daylight Time, LolaGF@aol.com writes: > Hello list, new to your list, > > I am researching Manuel JAY. Jean, You've got a strange one here. [Well, as I find things maybe not so strange.] I couldn't find him or her on the 1920 or 1930 census (here at Ancestry subscription). Those are the only ones with indexes, all the rest are scanned images and would take a long time to search through. I couldn't find either at the Green Mountain Cemetery (Boulder GenWeb) or at the Columbia Cemetery (Boulder Society). The Boulder County Clerks Office has an online index ( http://icris.co.boulder.co.us/splash.jsp ) ; and there it shows that on 5 Aug 1893 he was issued a medical license. (Instrument 80145522 , you can contact them and they can get you a copy for a small fee) On 6 April 1907 a Martha Williamson granted a warrenty deed to a Martha J Jay. On 29 Jan 1920 a Martha J Jay granted a warrenty deed to a William Rose. There were alot of entries for other people named Jay but not knowing the family they didn't mean anything to me. You may want to check and see if they ring a bell. I also have 3 books of newspaper extracts by Mary McRoberts and found the following 2 entries - 1.Births "Combs, Mr. & Mrs. Robert - dau b 20 Apr 1895 near fair grounds in Boulder. Dr. Jay delivered. (HW 24 Apr 1895:5) [HW=Boulder County Herald Weekly] 2.News "Jay, Dr./M...moving to Gunnison. (16 Apr 1896:4) [Boulder Daily Camera] So here's my suspicion - All of the major genealogical events (birth/marriage/death/children/etc) for Dr & Mrs Jay occured elswhere . The trail leads to Gunnison ; but that might not be the end. My family (and I'm noticing others also) were very transient in Colorado - bad case of "happy feet". It appears at least Martha still had property in Boulder and sold it in 1920. Which makes me wonder why I didn't see her on the 1920 index. Indexes often miss people and property can be sold by probate, but I would guess they moved on . I note there is a Western State College in Gunnison. He may have moved there to teach. You might check with them. Also with the Gunnison County Society. If you tell me their childrens names I'll take a glance at the 1920 index for you. Good luck, David Knowles
Hello list, new to your list, I am researching Manuel JAY. He was born in Indiana. In 1886 Graduated from Pharmacy Purdue University. 1890 Graduated Medical College of Indiana. Was a prize student in dIseases of children. Sometime after 1890 he moved to Boulder, CO. He was a prominent physician of Boulder, and he also resided there. His wife's name was Mattie J. MITCHELL. This is all the info I have on him, and this comes from another JAY cousin. My question's are; Is there a Physician's list for this timeline? How would I go about finding his residence? and the possibility of finding the cemetery where he may be buried? Thank you Jean Hehn Victor, CO
