    1. [COBLE] American Genealogical Biographical Index
    2. AGBI is available for free at Ancestry.com until December 1. http://ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/3599.htm A quick search resulted in 8 entries for KOBEL, 66 for COBLE and 323 for CABLE Description: One of the most important genealogical collections, the American Genealogical-Biographical Index, or AGBI, is the equivalent of more than 200 printed volumes. This database contains millions of records of people whose names have appeared in printed genealogical records and family histories. With data from sources largely from the last century, each entry contains the person's complete name, the year of the biography's publication, the person's state of birth (if known), abbreviated biographical data, and the book and page number of the original reference. In addition to family histories, other genealogical collections are indexed. These include the Boston Transcript (a genealogical column widely circulated), the complete 1790 U.S. Federal Census, and published Revolutionary War records. The most recent update to this database reflects the inclusion of volumes 196-206. For researchers of American ancestors, this can be one of the most valuable databases available at Ancestry.com. Most of the works referenced in the AGBI are housed at the Godfrey Memorial Library in Connecticut. A photocopy service is available. Please contact Godfrey Memorial Library at 134 Newfield St, Middletown, CT 06457 or via e-mail at referenceinfo@godfrey.org to make use of this service. To learn more about the AGBI, read the extended description below, but also read Kory Meyerink's article "Genealogy's Best-kept Secret: American Genealogical-Biographical Index." 2. I have not visited this site for several months and was amazed to see that you can now actually view the original land deed. Not all of the land deeds are available for viewing at this web site, but you can order them from the land office. Further information and instruction are on the home page. The land records begin in 1820. Go to: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/search.asp Type in the surname you are searching. Chose ALL STATES or which ever state that you wish to have searched. Next page: Once the name is searched, click on Details in the left column. Next page: Land Patent Details. Scroll right. In the header you will have four choices. Patent description, legal land description, document image and certified copy. Click: document image. Make your choice on how to view the document image. The original land deed will appear. You can now scan, print or save the document. Have fun, this is a great web site. Jean Kobel and Coble list manager

    3. Jannine, I know how you feel since I lost all of mine with the electrical fire in March. Thought I would bring you up to date also. Henry S. Coble's wife was not Caroline Seay. One of my husband's other ancestors, Hezekiah M. Goode was married to Elizabeth Seay, so the Stephenson you found in the census was his wife. I think I told you my husband's sisters were not very interested, so that is probably the reason for the mixup. Or, whoever gave them the info could have been wrong. Anyway, having found this out I have managed to get much information on the Goodes and Seays. Now I am going to go for the Stephenson. Thanks for your help.
