    1. [COBLE] Hans Georg GOBEL Immigration to PA.
    2. This entry should make a lot of people happy! Thank you so much Gert for all your kind help. This is exactly what sharing and discussing is all about. This week has been exciting and very eventful, thanks to all the participation going on. Let's not stop here. Jean Hans Georg GOBEL, of "Hofheim in the Austrian territories" [Hofheim im Oesterreichischen], citizen, vassal of the bishop of Speyer, by bad luck overloaded with debts (wife and children, free of vassalage), had property of 160 florins, was manumitted to go to his relatives in PA. [zu Verwandten in Pennsylvanien], 24 Apr 1733. Arrived at Philadelphia on the Ship HOPE, 28 Aug 1733. In the ship list the name is spelled "GOBEL, GABEL, & GOBL" The father's age is given as 40, the wife Barbara 38, and five children are listed (Antoni 12, Anna Maria 10, Magdalena 8, Jerg Adam 5, and Hans Jerg 3 1/2. A letter to the Editor from Dr. Fritz Braun, Director, Heimatstelle Pfalz, Kaiserslauter, dated 24 Feb 1970, furnishes additional data on this family. The town of origin is now Hoffenheim near Sinsheim in Baden. From the church register of Hoffenheim it appears that there were eleven children in all: Antonius, b. 24 Aug 1717, Carl Antony, b. 21 Oct 1718, died 26 Aug 1720, Maria Elisabetha, b. 3 Sep 1720, d. 2 Oct 1720., Anna Maria, b. 14 Aug 1721, Georg Balthasar, b. 3 Mar 1723, d. 23 Aug 1724, Maria Magdalena, b. 1 Jan 1725, Anna Margaretha, b. 23 Mar 1726, d. 28 Feb 1728, Georg Adam, b. 13 Apr 1727, Hanss Georg, b. 12 Sep 1728, Anna Catharina b. 28 Feb 1730, d. 24 Feb 1733, Maria Dorothea, b. 13 Apr 1732. That takes care of the Emigrant books that I have. Gert

    3. I thought I would send this documentation to the list for discussion. It is clear we have a Anthony and an Anthony Jr. now whether this is the Father and Son at this time can not always be clear. But the Brick Church records clearly states that we had a Anthony having an Anthony. Just because Anthonius does not mention an Anthony is his will does not always mean he is not his son, he could have already given him what he intended for him to have before he died. I have seen this in genealogy before. We could be dealing with 3 generations here also. Look at this and lets see if we can't get this straighten out for once and all (yes, I know that doesn't happen in genealogy) By the way I have all these land records from Orange County. The Anthony Coble that married Maria Barbara Summers, was born before 1776 as recorded in census records. He died bet 1820 and 1830 in Rockcastle County, Ky. 3. I know we have been on this subject before and never did settle it, But If Antonius b. 1717 had a son named Anthony, he wasn't listed in the Will and his last child was born in 1759 or 1760, somehow I just can't see them having another child 14 years later. Anna Maria would have been 51 years old. I'm not saying it is impossible but most list of the children I see does not mention a son named Anthony. I think this Anthony was a son of someone else. 3. I personally would suspect that decendents, at least, would be upset if a felt tip marker was used on an ancestor's stone. There have been times that I have written down what was on the stone at my time of visit, then later markup my photo of it with this recorded information. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Darrell" <darrellcoble@netzero.net> To: <COBLE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2001 12:01 PM Subject: [COBLE] Tombstone Photos > Hello, I have a question that I'm sure this group can answer. > I'm going back to Indiana in about a month to visit my Brother and > Sister but stated objective is to hunt mushrooms and visit cemetery's. 3. Hello, I have a question that I'm sure this group can answer. I'm going back to Indiana in about a month to visit my Brother and Sister but stated objective is to hunt mushrooms and visit cemetery's. I have trouble getting good photos and have been using chalk on the stone to make it readable with so-so results. Would a fat felt pen work in highlighting the engraving ?? Will someone get upset if I do this? What works well? Thanks Darrell Shop online without a credit card http://www.rocketcash.com RocketCash, a NetZero subsidiary
