No, they're two different persons. Gabriel Harwell Coats was born before Gabriel Garrett Coats by about 10-15 years I think. I know they knew each other as both were at the Ezekiel Jones-? estate sale in SC in 1814; both of them bought goods at the sale. Gabriel Harwell had a grandson later named Harwell Gabriel Coats.. I've been trying to find out the parents of Gabriel Harwell Coats on the premise there must be a "tie" somewhere in here as the two gabriels are the only gabriels I've found in all the coats, coates records in the southern states. There is one other Gabriel Coats, born 1842 but he lived in Ohio or Indiana all his life expect for his civil war service travels.I think I'm going to be forced to go to Camden,SC and look in the " Coats vertical file of Flat Rock" at the Museum. There is such a file and I'd like to see what's in it.Darn a man that leaves no trails behind him....... grampajoec
