Despite my address, I live in Sydney, Australia, and have been puzzling over the lineage of my ancestor Giles COATES born 1640s son of Robert & Elinor. Sadly the Chedworth Register iswanting for that period. According to the 1992 edition of IGI for Gloucestershire, UK, a line can be followed back to one John COTE born c. 1518, but the Library cannot tell me how this was compiled - was it from Wills do you think?
