I went to the courthouse in Catahoula Parish, LA last week and found a marriage license with Morgan Coates marriage to Sophiah Rawlings June10,1857 . Son of Clem Coates. My grandfather Simeon Thomas was one of the witnesses. Simeon Thomas' daughter was married to 1st Charles Austin Coates 1846 then, 2nd William E.(Doc) Coates 1859 (after Charles A. Coates death.) Both of these are sons of Austin Coates. Simeon Thomas is at all the related Coates marriages as witness. He is a Justice of the Peace in Catahoula Parish but, I haven't seen where he married any of the Coates. Does anyone have any information about Clem Coates and Morgan Coates as far as relationship to Austin Coates b. 1788 married to Margaret Coon. Also, Austin Coates , sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) Coates was married to Benjamin Rawlins-Rawlings , Sophiah Rawlings may also, be related. Thank You Robbie
