For any listers who may not know about this resource, many more names online at The Library of Virginia site - "Virginia Colonial Records" searchable database - look up under ship name or personal name, many shown as "master" others as "merchant" (of course, sometimes the individual concerned was both). Found two marvellous references to my mariner in this database and now have copies of the documents concerned. Sources for the references above include London Port Books (PRO), Orders and Instructions of Admiralty, Exports of English Merchants etc. http://eagle.vsla.edu/colonial/index.html should take you straight there, if any difficulties go to the Library's main page www.lva.lib.va.us/ and then to "Digital Library Collections" then "Virginia History & Culture", then to "Virginia Colonial Records Project".
