I noticed your comment about being unable to locate Flintons Creek in the persuit of locating one tract. I, too, am unable to pinpoint Flinton Creek's exact location, but I am quite sure of a more general location that might also be helpful to you. My Liles ancestors were among the first settlers of the South Carolina up country, coming in the early 1740's. Arromanus Liles, son of Ephraim Liles, was supposedly was the first white child born in the SC up country. I descend, most likely, from Ephraim's father, also named John Liles or this John's brother of unknown name. Most of the Liles (Lyles) settled near the confluence of the Broad and Sandy Rivers very near the present border of Chester and Fairfield Counties. They operated a ferry across the Broad River into Newberry County. I always assumed that the lands of my John Liles were also located in that area. However, carefully tracking several deed records from the estate of my GGGG Grandfather, John Liles, who died in 1790, to his wife and children led me to realize that their lands were on the Little Sandy River, a tributary of the Sandy. Among other adjacent land owners were the Trussells who's son married Elizabeth Liles, sister of my GGG Grandfather Samuel Liles and daughter of John and Agnes Cockrell Liles. Also among the deeds and plats in my possession, I identified a plat of the Franklin land which I believe lies on the other side of the Trussell land which is adjacent to my Liles lands. Your Coats ancestor's land is this previous Franklin land or adjacent to it. In identifying this location, I followed the Little Sandy River by drilling down into MapQuest and then followed the river to just east of the community of Cornewell on SH 321 south of Chester. There I found a road identified as Trussell Rd. Further investigation revealed that it was the current road leading to lands on the Little Sandy River. I feel strongly that is the area of my Liles lands as well as your Flinton Creek tract, which is a tributary of the Little Sandy, and is not near the Sandy and Broad Rivers as apparently your investigation led you. I also came across a timber company that had lands listed for sale near these tracts on the internet and upon further investigation, it is very possible that their tracts, which I am now told, lie at the end of Trussell Rd. may be the old Liles or Trussell lands and of course very close to the location of the land you were seeking. They are sending me additional information and are checking to see if they have an abstract. I have tried to go through the Chester County Courthouse unsuccesfully to find the location of the lands listed on my plats and deeds but they can only go forward, not backward. It appears that in reading your site that you were able to locate several of your lands on the ground. I tried following some of your SC gvmt. links but got nowhere. My Liles lands were the original grants of the State. I would appreciate any help you might be and would be willing to share with you any information you might find useful. Regards, Bill L.
