The Coates family that was here in Coryell Co. was founded by William Duval Coates who was married to Eliza Winifred Powell. His parents were Pollard Hickman Coates and Martha Smith Coates. The W D Coates family came to Coryell Co. about 1855 from Harrison Co., MS. They apparently also lived in several other Mississippi counties: Pike, Madison, and Holmes. None of their children matched with the John A. and B F Coats you were looking for. The only Coats/Coates burials we have records for are for the WD Coates family.
