Ah, the family trees are ged files within FTDNA, each person now has the ability to link their specific family to their DNA results...however, you would need to be a participant in the DNA project and match that person... However, you can also access any ged files they have attached to their files via FTDNAs Y-search, if that person has also put their data into that data base...that data base is basically a search and only concludes the kit numbers not the names of those taking the test...and the ged file will show as *living* those for whom there is data but the information has been hidden for privacy issues... So, those of you who are in the DNA group, please add your family ged file to your DNA home page if you would like others to have it or make it available to the public via the Y-search database...you can search that data base by surname as well...so you don't need the exact numbers from the results... You might want to bookmark this link, I didn't see it on FTDNAs home page: http://www.ysearch.org/ Char On Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 9:59 AM, vance <genquest@earthlink.net> wrote: > There are no links to the family trees for the DNA results. I'm confused. First, if we add a GED to this DNA home page, does that give them the right to the copyright for the data? Also, step by step procedures would be helpful in adding and in viewing them on the page. Thanks. All of the instructions are either on the FTDNA page or the Y search page for uploading your results from FTDNA to Y search, you can upload a ged at both FTDNA and Ysearch; I would suggest you all do that since the tests are really your starting point for research and for others to research from as well...the Y search site also gives others a chance to search by surname, remember, we have lots of Coats daughters out there that don't have a male for testing but who will find your ged file of interest and they may possibly contact you for further info...on the Ysearch site, they contact you via that site without revealing your email address, all most beneficial for research purposes....:) On the copyright, I don't think so, but you'll have to contact FTDNA for that or Y search.org for that information....
