There are Jefferson County GA Court records: Charles Coats - appointed commissioner - July 11, 1796 W. Coats - October 6, 1796 jury list Charles Coats, esq appointed to run a road from Fenn Bridge to Louisville - July 15, 1797 James Coats appointed overseer of the second district - July 22, 1801 Thomas Coates, Bu (looks like some blank space here, so this may not be the full name) Coates and Melly Coates minors and orphans of Charles Coates and chose William Coates as their guardian - January 17, 1804 Daniel Cole appointed overseer of the road in the place of James Coates dec'd - January 30, 1804 - above this entry is also an entry that appoints Elisha Gore as constable in Capt McNair's company...wasn't it Elisha Gore that witnessed William Coats of Kings Creek will?
