FYI...this is probably old research she's found of mine, 2001, hmmm, looks more like it was from the list info...but thought I'd pass this along, ...hmmm, don't we have a DNA group for this John Alexander Coats? Char ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <EllnMarcus@aol.com> Date: Tue, Aug 4, 2009 at 5:22 PM Subject: Coats and Bennett family genealogy To: coats.genealogy@gmail.com Dear Charlotte, I found information online that you'd provided to John Coats back in 2001 on RootsWeb. RootsWeb: COATES-L Re: [COATES-L] Fw: John Alexander Coats<http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/COATES/2001-09/1001643486> . Your old email was AbileneFlash@aol.com. That address no longer works, but upon further investigation, I found what I hope is you at your new email address. I've been looking for any children of William Bennett and Mary Amundsen for years now, and your info led me to Wm Jennings BRYAN Bennett who married Alta Lee Coats abt 1920 --thanks so much! Is there any chance you are in contact with Bennetts who know anything about the Bennett history? If so, I would love to pick their brains--the family is very small. Bryan Bennett (b. 1896) was the son of William Bennett (birth date unknown) and Mary Jane Amundsen (b.1864). My great-grandfather was Sam Bennett (Bill's brother), and my great-grandmother was Louisa Amundsen (Mary Jane's sister). Two brothers married two sisters. Here is a picture of Bryan's parents, Bill and Mary Bennett. My grandmother told me her uncle Bill was a veterinarian in New Orleans; he died young--in his late 30's. Mary must have died in her 40's, since on his WWI draft registration, Bryan names his uncle (my grandmother's father) Sam Bennett of W. Monroe, LA as his closest relative. Thanks again for posting Alta Lee's and Bryan's children's names. I NEVER would have found them on my own. I put your Coats info on my tree on ancestry.com. I'll happily send you an official invite to my tree if you'd like. I hope to hear from you...Ellen Marcus (originally from Texas, but now in New York City) ------------------------------ -- A shameless plug for my web activities: Support Authentic Cherokee Art - look for the Cherokee Authentication tag - that insures they are a tribal citizen Indian Arts and Craft Act: http://nativeamericanlawus.blogspot.com Freedmen vs Cherokee Nation: http://freedmenvscherokeenation.blogspot.com/ Cherokee Basket Weaver's Association: http://cherokeebasketweaversassociation.org/ Cherokee Basket Weaving Books: http://www.lulu.com/groups/indianbasketweaving Cherokee Artists Association http://www.cherokeeartistsassociation.org Coats Archive: http://www.coatsarchive.us Pages Through Time http://www.pagesthroughtime.us
