Patrons at any of the FCPL's seven branches (see www.fcpl.org for branch locations, directions, and hours) can now access all of Ancestry's databases if on site. Ancestry can not be accessed via the FCPL's web page from off site. Available Ancestry databases of potential special interest to Frederick researchers include PERSI, the Periodical Source Index. PERSI, the product of the Allen County Public Library, indexes local history and genealogical journals, including Western Maryland Genealogy, Maryland Historical Magazine, the Frederick County Genealogical Society (FRECOG) Newsletter, Historical Society of Frederick County Journal, and the Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin. The Maryland Room of the C. Burr Artz Library holds substantial runs of most of these periodicals. A wide variety of census indexes are also available on Ancestry.com, including non-population censuses. These indexes can simplify searching the census on microfilm available at the C. Burr Artz Central Library and aids in identifying the appropriate reel for ordering microfilm through the National Microfilm Census Rental Program. For information on the Census Rental Program please visit www.nara.gov/publications/microfilm/micrent.html or speak with a librarian at the Artz reference desk. Ancestry.com also offers a wide variety of obituary files from around the globe. For a full list of the 2,500 databases available through Ancestry.com go to www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/alldblist.asp. New databases are added daily. Ancestry is in the process of including U.S. Federal Census Images, an important addition to their offerings. These databases will only be available through membership. Ancestry also offers a free daily electronic newsletter to increase awareness of their collections. Users should also be aware of Ancestry's map collection, accessible at www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/reference/maps/main and their archives of articles on genealogy methodology at www.ancestry.com/learn/library/columnists/main.htm. The Maryland Room, C. Burr Artz Library, Frederick County Public Libraries hopes to offer Ancestry.com workshops in the coming year. Begin your search at home and stop by the library when you need to use one of the premium databases. For any questions about FCPL, the Maryland Room, and\or Ancestry.com please contact Mary K. Mannix, Maryland Room Manager, at 301-631-3764 or at mm0028@mail.pratt.lib.md.us. ==== MDFREDER Mailing List ==== OLD FREDERICK COUNTY, MD WEB PAGE http://members.aol.com/midmdroots/frederick/index.htm Court Records, Cemetery Inscriptions, Lookups and Queries! ============================== Add as many as 10 Good Years To Your Life If you know how to reduce these risks. http://www.thirdage.com/health/wecare/hearthealth/index.html

Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
