The information I now have on James Lewis who married Sarah Coates is: James born in Georgetown District, present day Marion County, SC December 10, 1781. Marrried Sarah Coates June 22, 1809. Around 1811 James moved his family to Darlington County, SC, where his older brother Benjamin was living. Around 1821 James moved his family south - probably to Florida first following his older brothers Benjamin & William), then ended up in Tuscaloosa County, AL where he remained until his death in 1842. He had the following children with Sarah: Mary Ann born February 25, 1811 Minerva born October 15, 1812 James Lewis, Jr. born November 16, 1814 Andrew Jackson Lewis born November 16, 1816 Sion Coates Lewis born December 6, 1818 Thomas Lewis born May 17, 1821 Sara Lewis boirn January 19, 1824 Sarah died about 1825 in Alabama. (If my sources are correct.) James's parents were Benjamin Lewis & Sarah Green. Benjamin was born about 1752 in New Hanover County, NC an dmoved to Bladen County, NC early in life. He settled in Marion County, SC.
