From: J.Coates RALPH L. COATES ASHEVILLE - Ralph Lewis Coates, 68, of Asheville, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the home of his son. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of Frankie Capehart Coats and the late William Carl Coates. He was a devout Christian, who shared his great love for the Lord through his gentle and giving spirit. As a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church, he was a former Sunday school teacher and served on various committees. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Navy. He retired from CTS and was the owner of Automatic Machining Co. Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, Freddie Coats, and three sisters, Mary Ruth Carver, Lois Coats and Betty Ann McGeary. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Faye Nelon Coates; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Mellanie Coates of Asheville; one daughter, Pam Kline of Barnardsville; one brother, Ronnie Coats of Asheville; one granddaughter, Lauren Kline; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Beaverdam Baptist Church. Dr. Earl Moseley will officiate. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home of David Coates. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
