I'm having difficulty finding Joseph Henry's birth information; all that I know currently is that he was born in 1825 in New York state. I have found a Joseph Coats in Avon New York in 1820 (might be his father) and a group of Coats males with names beginning with 'J'. There is a John and a James and with my great-grandfather being a "John James", it's possible that his father named him after his favorite relatives; possibly his uncles. I know from what my father has told me that our Coats ancestors were Scottish. I did find where Coats is a sept of Clan Farquaharson. I'm looking into what the exact relationship was.
