Charles married Martha sometime while they were in South Carolina. They moved from Kershaw Co., SC to York Co., SC between 1838 and 1844. About 1857 or so, the family moved to Shelby Co., AL. Charles COATS, b. May 11 1811 on gravestone, or about 1803 on census records. Martha "Patsy" ........possibly BARNES.....b. Dec 7 1825 on gravestone, or about 1818 on census records. Do you happen to know anything about the Charles COATS family when they lived in South Carolina? Here is a brief timeline that I have of my Charles COATS: 1811 - Kershaw Co., SC (birth of Charles Coats) 1838 - Kershaw Co., SC (birth of James Coats) 1845 - York Co., SC (birth of Margaret Coats) 1850 - York Co., SC (Census) Here is a transcript of a census record: 1850 York Dist., SC Census Free Inhabitants in York in the County of York State of South Carolina enumerated by me, on the 2 day of Aug 1850. ??
