I do not know much at all and am running into brick walls. I was told by a 2nd cousin that the Coates' were from Pennsylvania. I have no living relatives left to ask questions. I know that my grandfather, my mother's dad, who was John Wesley Coates, came from Nacogdoches County, Texas. His father was Charles Conner Coates. I believe he could have been from Alabama. I cannot find anything on him, except I know he died in Texas, possibly Knox County. If I could just make this connection, I believe I could proceed.
