Smith Melvin Coates, b 1860 Stonewall, Richmond Co., VA, d ? m Ida Virginia Henson, b 1863, perhaps Stonewall as well as her parents were born in Stonewall. There were seven issues. Eva A., Thomas Edward (my father-in-law), Melvin Carter, John, Benjamin, Myrtle and Nellie. Carter S Coats, b 1831, VA, d ?, m Maria ? There were seven issues: Smith Melvin, Nicholas D., Fannie E., Vannie, Hallaway, Clarence and Minnie.
