I know of my families whereabouts in 1860, (Per the 1860 Census) which was Spotsylvania Co. There were other Coats families in the same location, so I think that they all were related. My families Head was Warfield and Matilda Coats/Coates. Their first child, Betty was my GGGrand-Mother. This was a Mulatto family. Family history has it that Matilda was mixed Osage Indian from Missouri.
