Well, I not only found the Baker deeds..one for Obadiah and one for Sylvster but I also found the grant for each when they got grants for the land from the State of NC...interesting...seems like the grants were like in 1783/4 and then they sold the land shortly thereafter... What I'm thinking is they must have lived on the land for quite some time before they got grants to it and/or lived elsewhere in Rowan County although I haven't found any other deeds for them...they are adjoining land owners on Hunting Creek..... These two microfilm are rather interesting...they both seem to cover the same time periods...but one is typed and the other handwritten...and it almost appears as though they are a duplicate of each other but there aren't any Bakers in the typed version...also found a Benjamin and Peter Baker there... But a glaring fact is: I haven't found any Coate, Coates, Coats yet...I haven't read over all the deeds yet to see who adjoining land owners are but that John Boone shows up in these records as well...I just can't figure that out...unless, the Coats lived there and left prior to the state granting the land...i.e. which means there would be no record of it...these deeds though have been early enough I think some were in 1750s, to at least have shown a Coats if any as adjoining land owners...but I see nothing yet of a Coats...even Benjamin that we know was in Iredale or is that Iredell County NC, which was once Rowan.... But still lots to look at in NC...as in all the surrounding counties...<g>.... Will, get these scanned asap so you can see them...the handwritten records seem to have the state grant for the land and then any deeds follow that, then a few more state grants and then more deeds...also some bill of sale for cattle in here...tells about the brands on the horses and cows etc...really interesting reading...
