I'm not sure the name of his first wife, however, he was married to Nancy FOSTER, a widow with children, from Kemper Co., MS, between 1850-1854. Children (according to court records): (1) William COATES (he married Jane KITTRELL) (2) Mary COATES (she married _____FOREST) (3) Levinia COATES (she married Ezekiel DANIEL) (4) Tabitha COATES (she married Nathaniel KITTRELL) (5) Elizabeth COATES (she married William BUSBY) (6) Martha COATES (she married ____DYKES) (7) Cynthia COATES (she married John SELLERS) (8) Daniel COATES (he married Anne E._____) (9) Sarah R. COATES (she married Allen WILKERSON...this is my family.) Sion L. COATES & his family lived in Orangeburg & Barnwell counties, SC, until 1835. In 1835 they moved to Lauderdale Co., MS.
