In late 1776 the county of Montgomery was formed, separated from Frederick. In 1777 Charles had 4 taxables or males over 16.in the tax list. "Revolutionary Patriots of Montgomery County, Maryland" includes Charles Coats (Coarts) b. 1715 took Oath of Allegiance (required of all males) in 1778 Notley Coats b. 1755 private 8th co, Upper Battalion Militia 1777. Took Oath of Allegiance on Mary 2, 1778 Richard Coats, Private 3rd co, Lower Battalion militia Sept 1777 There is probably much more info on the Coats at Montgomery county internet sites or the Mont. Co Historical Society in Rockville. If you wish more professional help, I would do some research for you, but require an hourly fee. Anne W. Cissel, HIstoric Research Associates
