Came to this country with his father in 1800. Settled first in Geneseo County, NY where it is thought he married. Had one son by this marriage, Thomas. Settle in North Royalton, 1816. At one time owned a large farm in that town. Was well read. Was dientified first with the Free Soil, later with the Republican party. Was a member of Disiple Church. His second wife was Amanda, daughter of John Teachout, Royalton. Children: Thomas, son by first wife Ashbel b Royalton, son of Second wife Clarissa b Royalton Dec 27, 1835 dau second wife Thomas son of Charles, son of John Coates married Mary Stewart, Brecksville he died in 1894 aged 81; children: Alice b Royalton and Marie b Royalton...I'm not sure but this seems to say Royalton is in NY... Also takes this family down to the late 1800s....with connections in Mich Chapter on Catherine Coates McKay she married Daniel McKay and they settled near Philadelphia, it appears they may have moved to Bigtree, Genesee County, NY, they were married Oct 15, 1807 she was about twenty years old when she came from England and a member of the Church of England...they moved to Ohio in 1820...they settled on the south bank of Tinker's Creek...moved to Brecksville, then Boston, Summit County later to Independence, Ohio where they died.... They moved to Ohio in 1816 and settled in Independence....children: Susanna, Jane, Robert, John and Margaret Brings this family down into the late 1800s as well...
