It states he was the son of Charles C. Cote who was born in North Carolina in 1776, and died in McMinn County. There is also a listing in "Tennesseans in Washington County before 1800", which shows a Benjamin "Coat" deed records, book 6, page 496 microfilm no. 196 and a Richard "Coats" deed records, book 6, page 496, microfilm no. 196. Another listing is for Israel "Cote", Deed, book 8, page 113, microfilm no. 197 My relatives moved from Virginia to Rowan County to Washington Co., TN (which was also North Carolina and Virginia) depending upon which year you study.
