I am researching the Coates family with the following information: My grandfather was Fred Coates, b 29 March 1883, Bolton, Lancashire, England, and d 8 Nov. 1951, Igloo, S.D. He left England on May 11, 1904 and arrived in Edgemont, S.D. May 26, 1904. Fred's parents were Wm. and Margaret Alty Coates and his grandparents were Wm. and Martha Mudd Coates. Fred came to the U.S. as a blacksmith and died as postmaster of the post office at Igloo, S.D.
