    1. [COATES] James of Edgefield and James Robert again
    2. John Coats
    3. Because we have done DNA testing, we can easily differentiate between those who descended from James of Edgefield, and James Robert Coats. Everyone whose Y-DNA matches the Marmaduke, and John Gentleman and his son, James of Edgefield, will match the R1b1 group, which Linda Coate descends from. Our James Robert and all who descend from him will match the R1a1 group. This fact proves the value of doing at least the 37 marker test, since that will show which group you came from. DNA testing has helped us all separate these two Jameses. It is just sad to see that mistakes are still being perpetuated in these on line databases. Everything in our James Robert line matches up by deeds, wills, censuses, and death records. The only things in doubt are the parents of James and the dates and places of birth and marriage date of James Robert and Josephine Elizabeth Webster. Those dates and places have never been proven by any other written records on file anywhere. Pat Moran in his book "Exodus from Offaly" has previously expressed this. John W. Coats
