But also in there is a Mortgage from William Coate, Henry Coate, Esther Pemberton and Richard Pemberton to Joseph Toland in 1802 or 1804, I think it is...anyway, they took out a mortgage on land on Beaverdam *where the widow now lives*...sooooo, William, Henry and Mamduke are brothers? This 1802 or 4 Mortgage you talk about is very interesting. I haven't seen it.... Is there any indication who the "widow" is.... The William and Henry could easily be the known sons of Little John.... (not Big John who lives on Beaverdam Creek and who doesn't die until 1809).... Does anyone know who Esther and Richard Pemberton are??? so we can place this family. It could indicate a relationship between Big John Coates family and this Coates family so is definitely worth checking on the location of the property on Bigdam (as there were 3 Bigdam Creeks in Newberry Co.) and narrowing down who it refers too.
