Well, that DNA result yesterday was an at least known link to Gab's group...we have another new test that might connect with Big John... We have three 37 marker upgrads still waiting to come back...one for the test above and two more from Marm's group... I'll get it right....:) Char
That's great Joe! I hope it gives you guys some more significant leads. GAB's Group I have noticed in several of the marriages SMITH names have come up. Now I know that SMITH is a very common name but, has anyone looked to see if there is a relationship between these SMITH's? There is for example Daniel Coats (m) Martha Smith (who were her parents?) Pollard Hickman Coates (m) Martha (Patsy) Smith (Parents Gideon Smith and Martha Lane) Hmmm... born in NORTH CAROLINA where Daniel Coats and Gabriel were born. Hey Joe... maybe we can backdoor this thing thru the Smith's. Robbie
Mistake: there are no documents at the new site...only the web pages...sorry... the new DNA results are only at the new site: http://www.coatsarchive.us Sorry....Char
We have another perfect for Gab's group...not sure how he connects he thought via Big John Coats but maybe not... You can see the new results at: http://www.coatsarchive.us I heard something about, you don't need to add the www any more to url and it appears both ways will work to get there...you can also still get to the old site via the old url....so both sites are going at present...as though I don't have enough to do....:) Now, this is the new site, it is a no frills, loaded with info site....:) you'll find links on the top, bottom and left side if there are any additional links to the page...I've got lots of documents up, not all and there are no records there yet... I have a couple of DNA family records that are not linked, I may have lost them in the process or I have put them in another file...so if you don't have a recorded linked to the kit number, you can send me another or I will contact you later if I can't find it... Happy Happy Turkey Day!! Char
Does anyone remember if there is a Coate branch that has DNA tested that descends from whomever Joan Sisom's husband was? Her husband was the progenitor of a major Philadelphia grouping of Coates. LINDA COATE, Columbus, Ohio [email protected] www.ancestrees.com

More from Elizabeth.... ----Original Message Follows---- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Coates in Hickman Co. TN Date: Sun, 7 Nov 2004 21:54:16 EST Hello Char (Charles?), Thank you for your prompt response. I am just not as familiar with my Coates line as I am some of my other family lines. I was mistaken about James coming from N.C. (looked at some old notes that were incorrect). According to our Hickman County History and also to his obit of 10-31-1879, James, who was called Jim, came from Virginia. He had two brothers, John, who settled in N.C. and William, who remained in Virginia. There are few male surnamed Coates from this line that I am aware of and it is doubtful if they would submit to DNA testing. I know that is the best way to ascertain connections between questionable lines. I am active on some MyFamily.com sites and have taken over the sponsorship of a Coates site that is not very active, but have begun a new MyFamily site called HassellsCreek, and I have a catagory for Coates on this.I have placed a copy of James' obituary on this site as well as his son, Sam's (my great grandfather) It is not limited to one family line, but includes many lines and anyone who has an interest in country living, stories from the past, scenic photographs, and this area of Tennessee where so many of our ancestors settled after coming over the mountains of N.C. into TN and from VA &S.C.also. I am a writer/collector of stories from the past. Sincerely, Elizabeth

I was just wondering how the voting lines are in the different states we are all in. In Columbus, Ohio it's a record breaker for turn out. I was in line 15 minutes before the poles opened and it still took me an hour to get to vote. When I came out, the lines were 5 times longer than when I went in.... and they were even worse in the rain at 4:00 this afternoon. It's going to be a long night! Donnie...I'm in the process of moving the archive so all the records with the exception of a few of the transcribed records have been taken down...it's a long story... Are you referring to the Mills atlas maps...? Char
FTDNA started this general fund thing after we started and I assume several other groups started taking donations for tests....but thought you might like to see what they are doing...any comments? Also notice some of the reduced prices for certain tests in the message until the end of Nov.... Char ----Original Message Follows---- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>,<[email protected]> Subject: Four announcements Date: Mon, 1 Nov 2004 22:03:53 -0600 To Coats group manager, a) Matching gift and more: after the launch of the General Fund, many of you e-mailed me and asked if it would be possible for contributions to be made in memory, or in honor of a specific person. Others asked if the entire General Fund could be named in memory of a specific person. Our answer is yes to both alternatives. We are adding a field in the ordering page in case you want to honor a specific person with your donation. And, in case you want your entire General Fund to be named after someone, please let me know, and I will create a specific Contribution page that will have the person's name. In conjuction with that, we are continuing our matching gift offer until the end of November;(www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html) b) mtDNA promotion: Responding to our customers' requests, we have decided to extend the promotion on the mtDNA tests and bundles to the end of November. Please make your participants or potential participants aware of this extension; (http://www.familytreedna.com/mtDNA_promo.asp) c) The same is valid fo our "Haplogroup Challenge", which will also be offered for $50 until the end of November: if we are wrong in our prediction of any testee's Haplogroup, we will test until we have the correct Haplogroup assigned; a) Our newest updated version of the Y-chromosome Haplogroup chart that was presented at our Conference is now for sale. It is a color coded wall chart. You can see it and order at the Haplogroup area of the personal pages; Thank you for your continued support! E-mail me any time!
