For those of you that have not upgraded to the 37 marker test...you may want to consider that in light of the test results out of Marm's group....could make a difference... Char
Most interesting. This is the William we had no idea was related to the Marm group. My 37 point Marmaduke test is overdue, but hopefully will be in any day now. It looks like the 37 point is going to be useful to sort us out for closeness in that South Carolina area. I do have then all uploaded and linked, just don't have them converted to .jpg files yet....so they, SC, all works but are in .pdf files... Char
oops, sorry, I've got all the records for SC uploaded but not all the links changed yet....I'm working on it....:) Char
Ok, folks...this looks promising...the only William Coats in the Charleston area that this could possibly fit is the William Coats wife Mary, I think her father was a Daniel Green...recall we have a James Green Coats in Rev Will's line as well.... I've not checked any of this out yet...and 1788 seems a bit early for a marriage date...but I don't know anything about the William Coats and Mary, as I recall there was no will for a William and Mary in SC other than the William Coats and Mary on the Bush River...boy, does that put us back to square one or what... But I think Orangeburg was the county where the Polk Swamp was and seems to me that's where their land was, also seems there was either a James or John in that county as well... So will see what I can find... Char ----Original Message Follows---- From: Janet Burks <[email protected]> To: "Charlotte Coats" <[email protected]> Subject: John Baker of Wilson Co, TN Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2005 20:33:43 -0600 Char, This is our theory so far. We hope this will help and hopefully lead you to more proof. We searched for any John Baker estate that was from $1,000-$2,000 in TN. Each of Nancy's heirs got $17.50 x say 14 children or heirs you have between $175 and $245 for Nancy's part of an estate that she received. If there were more heirs you can see the estate would be bigger than $245.00 at the least. Nancy is probably the daughter of John BAKER who died about 1844 in Wilson County, Tennessee. There are two Wilson County estates, the first John Baker died about 1819, his estate being worth less than $200 could not be the right man. The other John BAKER of Wilson County, Tennessee died about 1844, his administrator being William WRIGHT. The initial settlement of this estate in 1846 contained a balance of only $17.50 in the administrator's hands, with his services estimated at $100 not yet paid. Not included in the account at that time, were 5 Negroes whose value was estimated at about $2000. After their sale, and payment of other debts, there remained $1600 for distribution to heirs, which were not named. No further account or distribution of this estate was found. On 18 June 1850 Nancy BAKER's heirs received from $175-$245 each from the estate of John BAKER "of Tennessee." This timing fits when Nancy's heirs received the funds. This John BAKER estate was the only Tennessee John BAKER estate found that was of sufficient value (other than the John of Montgomery County whose heirs were identified in his will). This John BAKER was a Revolutionary War pensioner, stating he had been born in 1747 in Stafford County, Virginia, being age 96 when he applied on 20 April 1843 from Wilson County. From his application, about 18 months after the war he moved to South Carolina, about 60-70 miles from Charleston for about 3 years that would place him in South Carolina about 1785-1788. The end of that period (1788) would be about when Nancy BAKER was to have married William COATS. William COATS was from South Carolina. Get back with me when you can. I knew it....:) ********************* One in five Scots has blood tie to ancient Iraq SHARON WARD ABOUT 20 per cent of all Scots have Iraqi blood, according to a new book and television series examining the pre-history of what is now Scotland. The remaining four in five Scots are descended from bands of hunter-gatherers who came from England and northern Europe after the Ice Age - dispelling the myth of the Scots as a mongrel race made up of Romans, Angles, Vikings, Normans and other arrivals. These revelations come from a documentary series Before Scotland: The Story of Scotland Before History, to be screened later this year on STV and Grampian. The programmes - accompanied by a book - also claim the mythical land of Atlantis existed in what we now know as the North Sea, and that many Scots spoke Old Welsh before Gaelic. And they dispel the myth that the population in 4000BC was made up of grunting cavemen running around in animal skins, saying the people were actually very similar to Scots today. Alistair Moffat, the writer and producer of the series, said many people would be surprised by the findings: "We find it very difficult to believe that 10,000 years ago people who looked like us lived on this island, hunted and gathered food, had families that they cared for, talked about ideas, gossiped, told funny stories, lied and were often worried about the future. "Yet all the evidence shows that they were indeed like us, and, further, they were in fact our direct ancestors. They deserve a history and nothing less," added Mr Moffat. Telling the countrys story from the end of the last Ice Age - about 8000BC - to the fall of the Pictish kingdom, the series ends in 900AD when the name Alba, Gaelic for Scotland, came into common use. The original name Scotland, said Mr Moffat, meant the Land of the Pirates. Using new research into Scottish DNA by Professor Bryan Sykes of the Oxford Ancestors Project, the revelation that some Scots have an exotic set of Iraqi ancestors is also backed by his research, which traced the movement of early farmers in the centuries around 4000BC. It showed them coming from Iraq and ultimately to prehistoric Scotland. Fi Harris, marketing and communications consultant for the Scottish genealogy website ScotlandsPeople, said: "It certainly promises to offer a fascinating and innovative insight into Scottish ancestry and the role it has played in shaping modern-day Scotland. "Since we launched ScotlandsPeople in 2002, interest in genealogy has soared and we now have over 245,000 registered users. "Although this new documentary concentrates on 8000BC to 900AD, it will help to demonstrate how fascinating it can be to trace the lives of our ancestors." Before Scotland: The Story of Scotland Before History, by Alistair Moffat, is published by Thames and Hudson on 31 January

I don't have any information on this Jacob Coats, but I was wondering if anyone had an estimated date of birth on him. That might be a good point of departure and possibly rule out some connections.
