Hmmm, that deed is already in the Archive but under William Couts, the index for this deed would indicate it was a Coats... Boy, this is going to be confusing... The Robertson County TN records I got include Bk or Vol A, B and E...on this one roll...in Bk B, p. 311 there is a William Coats selling land to John Baker...Vol A and B are typed or transcribed records but in the front of each Vol is the original index for that Vol..handwritten etc...at any rate, the index very clearly says William Coats to John Baker but the record was transcribed as Couts...the deed is dated 1800... Now, there are other Couts records in this group...but I haven't checked where they were all located yet... When I get to book B will make a of copy of this record...I'm also going to scan the indexes for these two books, since they are probably the only original source for these records... This is the beginning of the 96 District plats...there are three or four rolls of these and a lot of plats on each roll.... All of the plats on this roll are between the years of 1785-1785, 1788 and 1793-1794...I don't know what happened to the years inbetween...probably lost... This is going to be just plat Book A of these records...I haven't added the year because it was so repetative...so if there is a plat out of year, I've shown that...also when there is a year change I'll show that...almost all of these early or first plats are on Reed River off of the Bush River...so some of these have to be in Laurens County... http://www.rootsquest.com/~coatsfar/96c902a.htm Char ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

I'm Sandy Coats, charleston, illinois. No one in my family knows my Great Great Grandfather's name. We thought that it was Samuel but have recently found pictures showing that Samuel was a step-father. My GG Grandpa married Nancy Wilson, b-day 8-21-1849. He died in a coal mine accident at the mammoth caves either right before his son was born or right after. Fredrick Coats was born 3-5-1875. Nancy married Samuel Kennedy and had 4 more children. I also know that Fred was little he used to play in the caves on his farm that was on the Green River and connected to the Mammoth Caves. Does anything ring a bell? Can you help me? I have all the family tree from Fred to present. thanks for listening - Sandy ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Greetings and thanks, I read the Coates list everyday. I am looking for sibling information on Kersey Coates of Kansas City Mo. I think Kersey may be my gr gr grandfathers brother? Kersey died in 1887 in KS,MO. I found a Kersey Coates on family tree maker that I think is the same one but it only shows a simmon as a sibling and my gr gr grandfather was WilliamH. Coates. Family story has it that my gr grandfathers brother went to work for Kersey after the civil war for a time? This is a roundabout way trying to find the next generation as I am at a road block. Thanks Dennis W. Coates dwcoates@caltel.com dwcoates@hotmail.com

Hello, Courtney. I have quite a few generations of info on the lines you mention below. The most difficult one is your Hepseba Coate line as it's a dead end at Big John and Rachel Wright Coate. To find each of these individuals and their ancestors on my site, I suggest you go to www.ancestrees.com and make the following choices: "Entire Database" and the first COATE surname listed which will start with "Big" John Coate. For John (C.) Wright and Rachel Wells, choose Entire Database and Wright. Either one will give you info. Would you mind sharing the names of John Prior Wright's ancestors back to Rachel Wright with me, so I can tie him into the Wright family? Thanks. For Rachel Wells lineage, go to "Entire Database" and follow the 2nd Wells surname listed to get down to her. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions, cousin. Hello listers, I'm trying to trace the whereabouts of Sgt. Edward COATES, RASC British Army. He was born about 1917, it's presumed in England, and during World War 2 was stationed on the grounds of Crystal Palace in London. In 1943 he was posted overseas, leaving behind his fiancee and young son. His son was later placed in the care of Barnardos Home in Essex before being sent to Australia as a British Home Child. I'm writing this on behalf of his granddaughter who would to find Edward COATES or any family members, and would appreciate any help or information. John William was actually born in l846 and I find George Scott Coats of Kentucky had son John William born l846. ( I asked aunt and she said she may have mistaken Tenn for Ky - isn't sure). This line tracks back to John Coats of Edmundson Co., Ky. who was born in l793 and had wife Rachael. Won't bother you any more until I get death cert to verify. Thanks.
