This from the Jobe list...but it tells about Nottingham Quaker Meeting...that was in PA then it was MD after the Mason Dixon line was drawn...I was wondering whether it was in PA or MD...a bit confusing...something else I found interesting about those Nottingham records, they were quite familiar with Bush River Meeting and at least one death I saw listed was a Coppock I believe that had died at Bush River...don't recall off hand if it said SC...but I think there might have been more contact with these folks than we think...Moses Coates of course was in Chester County PA and in the marriage records for Nottingham was a Warrick Coates.....Char ----- Original Message ----- From: mthiesse@swbell.net Sent: Saturday, December 16, 2000 7:04 PM To: JOBE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [JOBE] Andrew Job Greetings...below is an extraction from a website at ancestry.com that is free until the 21st. UWCHLAN MEETING HOUSE, CHESTER COUNTY, BUILT 1756 Uwchlan Particular Meeting was established in 1712, and the Preparative Meeting two years later. The present meeting-house was built in 1756. page 158 The Friends of Nottingham were residents of Chester County, until about 1765, when the running of the famous Mason and Dixon line brought them within the limits of Cecil County, Maryland. In 1701, a company of friends, prominent among whom were John Churchman, Andrew Job, William and James Brown, and Henry Reynolds, removed from the old settlements in the vicinity of Chester and settled on a tract of some 18,000 acres of land called Nottingham on Octorara Creek. In 1705, they had a meeting settled among them, held at the home of William Brown, until the erection of a meeting-house in 1708-9. This building was replaced by one of brick in 1724. John Churchman notes in his journal that in 1748 the latter was destroyed by fire, and until a new meeting-house could be built the meetings were held in a private house. When rebuilt, a stone addition was made to the original brick-work. The wood-work was again destroyed by fire in 1810. In 1811 the present structure was erected, and although one-half stone, has always been known as the “Brick Meeting.” page 159 Nottingham Meeting constituted a part of Concord Monthly Meeting until in 1715 it was transferred to Newark Monthly Meeting. On the erection of New Garden in 1718 it became a part of that Monthly Meeting, thus continuing until [p.159] 1730, when Nottingham Monthly Meeting, consisting of the meetings of East Nottingham, West Nottingham, and Bush River, was established.<br clear=all><hr>Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at <a href="http://explorer.msn.com">http://explorer.msn.com</a><br></p>

Well, I'm getting close to getting these...<g>.... I've made phone contact with the GA State Archive and have a few more hoops to jump through to get some microfilm out of Jefferson County, GA....other counties will be forth coming as well.... Apparently like VA you have to have the probate court clerks permission to buy microfilm from the GA state archive...why is beyond me...I mean the 1700s precludes anyone still living...<g>...they're sending more info via snail mail.... I don't think I need do this for the deed records...so those may come first... Hey List; Just a random walk through a couple of subjects. 1. Former Senator Dan Coats. Just wondered if anyone has Dan Coats's line. He is apparently the insiders choice for Secy of Defense. I sent him a letter 10 years ago asking if he had done any research, and he said no. I thought maybe Linda or John Henry may have his line, since he is from Indiana. In his last race for the Senate, he was the first national candidate in the nation to be announced the winner, with about 62% of the vote. Then he announced his retirement a few years ago. 2. Robertson County Tennessee. Recently, I hired a researcher in Rob Co Tenn, asking him to find any record of James Robert Coats and his wife, Josephine Elizabeth Webster. Their first child, my gggrandfather, John Webster Coats was supposed to have been born there on 22 Sept 1808. He found nothing on James or his wife, but did find an indenture from William (Couts-Cook) (spelled both ways), to Eli Jones dated 27 Jan 1797. Also, a Barton Coats buying from a Williams one hundred acres in 1811. Later, another deed by William Couts to John Baker. Also, later, several more transactions by Barton Coats in the early 1800's. Just wanted to pass this on. Also, wanted to mention I'm now doubting a lot of the early information I obtained from Annie Sue Sumrall of Meridian Ms., which were based on a transcribed copy of a supposed bible record of Madison Coats, a son of James Robert. Problem, no one has ever seen a copy of the original record. Also, conveniently, James's first child, John Webster, was born almost exactly nine months after the supposed marriage date. Problem: Wedding day was on 24 Dec, Christmas eve, 1807. Did many people get married on Christmas Eve back in those days. Sounds a little fishy to me. Any feedback will be appreciated.
