Reder Martin Taylor Ferrel Brooks James Reder George McFarling Jacob Linsey William Summers James McCool Andrew Holmon Solomon Chapman Gabril McCool There is also a bond of some type signed by Mary Coate, John Taylor, Joseph Eastland and Thomas Elmore There quite a few notes in here: to John Frost William Dilling Samuel Miles estate all signed by Samuel Coate or Coats The estate also paid: John and Charles Bulow for Cotton Bagging Samuel as appears as Cotes or Cote These administrations don't give us much else... I do not know where they lived. James was born in 1781 and married Sarah (his second wife) in 1809 in South Carolina. Sometime between 1820 and 1827 he migrated to Alabama. They had a daughter, Minerva, and a son, James Jr. that I know of. Would be interested in anything you have that might connect these two people. He then married Martha Fleming on August 20, 1827. Did Sarah die? When? Other children? Thanks for sending me the Coats website...I will look into it, too. * Charlotte wrote: http://www.rootsquest.com/~coatsfar/fgbyand.html Karen are you on our Coates-l list? 1. [COATES-L] Family of Jehu Coats
    2. Charlotte
    3. Michael are you one our Coates list...? Char ***************** Here is my genealogical report for Jehu Coats, son of Henry Coate and Molly Pitt(s). There is not really much to it. Four of his sons died without issue, three in the Civil War. Only one daughter had children; and for various reasons, I haven't gotten around to entering them in my computer. That only leaves my 2nd great grandfather Henry C. and his brother Daniel P.. I lose track of the Daniel and his family in AR after 1870. According to his Civil War records, Daniel had cancer of the stomach so I imagine that he died in either St. Francis or Boone Co. AR. I guess that I should get going on the children of the daughter that I mentioned. When I get them entered, I will send them to you. SIX RARE CAST IRON CASKETS FOUND Newberry---As Newberry Co.officials were moving a family graveyard to make way for economic development, they uncovered a first---six well-preserved cast iron caskets from the 1800s, one with the mummified remains of a 10 month old boy inside. The caskets are the first of their type to be discovered intact in the state, said Jonathan Leader, an archaeologist with the SC Institute of Arch. and Anthropology. Leader said that in the past bits and pieces of cast iron caskets had been found , but these were in great condition. The property the caskets were discovered on belongs to Gene Norris, who agreed to sell the land to the county provided that it exhume and relocate the graves. Newberry Co Public Works found the six caskets, 18 headstones, and bits and pieces of wooden casketx. Officials didn't open any of the caskets, but time and the elements left the casket of 19 month old John Austin Buzzard with damaged hinges. The other caskets contained the remains of two children, two adults, and another infant. "We began the Mon. before the Christmas holidays and found the first casket that week" , said Jim Liptak, dir. of Newberry Co. Pub. Works. "We found the last one Monday." Officials aren't disclosing the grave site to prevent looting. The remains will be relocated to Rosemont Cem in Newberry. Until then , they are being kept in a "safe place." Leader said the caskets are rare because of the materials they were made from. "They're very expensive," Leader said. "Finding them suggests life was considerably more sophiticated than people thought, and very clearly the Buzzards were in the top 1 percent in economic terms." Added note: Edith Greisser is collecting Buzzard /Buzhardt information for the ONDQ article. I had a letter from her today asking for family data. My problem is that I can't get back from Susannah Buzhardt/Buzzard who married Jacob Keller. Am not certain that this was their burial spot, either. I do know they were buried in a family cemetery. Help, anyone??? Val<br clear=all><hr>Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at <a href="http://explorer.msn.com">http://explorer.msn.com</a><br></p>

    1. [COATES-L] Update on Austin Coates search
    2. Hello, I thought I'd update you on where my search has brought me so far on Austin Coates. Note: There were many Austin Coates: 1. Austin Marion Coates b. 1788 married Margaret (Kuhn) Coon - SC - Wilkinson Co., Ms. 2.Austin M. Coates married Christine Heslip More About ? HESLIP: Fact 1: Allen K. Johnston, interview with Christine Heslip (Mrs. Austin M. Coates Grandma 3. Austin Murphy Coates married Lucinda Dismuke - Sumner Tn.Lucienda Towns Dismukes b: May 15, 1806 d: 1881 in McKinley , Al. ............. +Austin Coates m: Nov 14, 1824 in Sumner Co., Tenn 4. William Coates of Virginia married Susannah Dismukes had a "single" son with no family that moved to Virginia. The Dismukes family says this was their Austin married to Lucinda. According to William Coates Pension Papers he states July 26, 1820, Davidson Co.,Tn. that our son Austin Coates who has no family of his own , owner of 2 slaves and a fine house , but who is about to leave the state (TN) and fix his residents in Virginia this coming fall. That would be fall of 1820. I question this being the same Austin as Austin Coates married Lucinda Dismuke. He married Lucinda in 1824 in Sumner,Tn. and I believe thay moved to Ms. then, AL. 5. Austin Coates son of Sion that died in 1857. 6. David Jackson Coates brother of Austin Marion Coates had a son Austin Marion Coates b. 1843 d. 1854 in La. There are other younger Coates that are living so I won't give out their information on Rootsweb. These are names that as a child my aunt, me and sisters remember my grandmother stating she was related to on the Coates side. My mother had a couple written in the papers she had given me before she died in 1996. Dickerson, Pearson, Bebee , West, Hollingsworth, Hodges, Thomas, Adkins, Lilley , Acord, Burch, O'Neal, Pace, Boyd, Gilbert, Douglas. Thanks, Robbie

    3. Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well...but didn't I see someone looking for a Joseph Coats or even Joseph N. Coats...? But I don't have a Joseph listed for him either...maybe Jasper was a nickname like Polly is for Mary or Beth or Betty for Elizabeth...well, it should create some confusion...<g>... 3. http://www.rootsquest.com/~coatsfar/landrecuses.htm No new info on here...I just put Scotts Creek back where it should be and made the land graphics a bit different...since I'm not trying to draw this to scale...<g>....I have just put a major dot where the plat is and then smaller dots around the plat to show adjoining land owners in their approximate location around the plat...Samuel Kelly adjoins William Coats, Keslar and John Coate's land...so it was probably a rather large piece of land with an irregular shape.... 3. http://www.rootsquest.com/~coatsfar/landrecuses.htm Well, I don't know...if Scotts Creek looks a little different on that second map, it's cause I had to move it to get James' land in there...<g>... The problem with that area it just seems to small between the road and Scotts creek to fit all those landowners in there, James' land is vacant all around except for Samuel Kelly adjoining it...and his plat doesn't show that Jacob Brooks adjoins his land...seems to me at one time I read that Jacob Brooks had 500 acres of land...so I'm not sure what the distance is between that road and Scotts creek..but it sure doesn't look like a big enough area to fit all those folks into... So without probably some other plats of those in the area, it's kinda hard to visualize how they all fit together...so for the time being, till I get more plats...this is just best guess...<br clear=all><hr>Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at <a href="http://explorer.msn.com">http://explorer.msn.com</a><br></p>

    1. [COATES-L] Benjamin Johnson Coate
    2. Ed Astleford
    3. I am a descendant of Benjamin Johnson Coate and his wife Mary Jones. Their daughter, Sarah Tucker Coate married John J. Coppock. Since some of this information may be from the Coate/Coppock genealogy. I have more faith in my Mother's own research on the Coppocks. The primary names in my line are Coppock, Jay, and Hupp. Carma
