Hi Osborn- Do you have a Henry COATS/Susannah ELLIOT in your records? There are some gedcoms floating around that have Henry being the grandson of Thomas and Beulah. His parents were supposedly Samuel COATES and Mary LANGDALE. Henry died around 1790 in Rowan County, NC. City Archives has 1886-1915 marriage records on microfilm, BUT WILL NOT MAKE COPIES for mail-in requests, ONLY CITY HALL WILL; however, City Archives won't stop you from making your own copies from these films if you can get there in person. It all has something to do with the Marriage License Bureau's control over post-1885 marriage records. The microfilm machines at Phila. City Archives are now coin-operated ($ .25/15 mins.), as is the microfilm printer ($ .75/page). There is no problem getting copies of Jul 1860-Dec 1885 Phila. marriage licenses by mail from City Archives. This is in reference to PA records....a $1.00 an hour to read microfilm????? No wonder they don't want to sell it...<g>... ----- Original Message ----- Re: Marriage license film ques Can someone tell me if Marriage license applications (1885-1915) are available and viewable on microfilm at City Hall? -------The Microfilm reader printer for the public was broken last time I was at city hall. I was told it would not be fixed. You cant look at film. Call them to be certain.------- Since I'm only interested in the information entered on the application and I don't really need a hard copy, I hate to spend the $15/$30 required for same.I normally order my copies through the LDS for 75 cents but unfortunately the one film I need is missing from their catalog and myinquiry to LDS concerning it came up with the same 'missing' status. In Missouri he lived in Mississippi Co. at least from the birth of his first child in 1892 until his death in 1934. Mississippi Co. is located just north of the bootheel section of the state. The eastern boundary is the Mississippi River. Southern tip of Illinois and Kentucky are across the River from Mississippi Co. Tennessee is just a few miles south of Mississippi County, on the eastern side of the Mississippi River. Callaway Co. is west of St. Louis, north of the Missouri River and more toward the center of the state. Henry and Johnson are on the west central side of the state with Henry joining Johnson on the northern border. It does not seem a logical move from those counties to Mississippi Co. However, it is an easy route from the western side of Tennessee. Early settlement was mostly from Kentucky, TN, and AR. Sure hope somebody can help me out.

Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
