For goodness sake Louise chill. Charlotte has spent countless hours of her time over the years answering questions, doing investigations, and playing traffic cop for all us Coats' as we tried to make our way through the maze of records. As with all of us, Charlotte's time and or interests have move on to other things and she has offered a viable alternative to her being in complete control of a very time consuming task. It is her call as to which road she chooses to take concerning the web site. If your information was already on the web site then I say you have no right to say anything about it being on the CD. If not, you have no dog in this fight. If you had a beef with Charlotte I think a private e-mail to her would have been more appropriate. My two cents worth. Terry L. Whoa, Louise, I don't recall any offer of a free website and all the space I needed..did I miss an email...? Folks, I'm just doing other things and don't spend that much time on the family research any longer... There is nothing on that disk that wasn't on the website...as I recall Louise, you had your own site with all your info on it...so why in the world would I put that on this disk? Look if anyone would like to take that disk and put it back on the web, please feel free...I don't have a problem with that... It's just more convenient for me to have the disks made and packaged somewhere else, they look nicer, and unfortunately there is a cost to that...I could make it a free download but holy cow, who wants to tie up their computer with a 2GB down load or those with dial up would just not have access to it...so I just thought this the best way to go... Wow, didn't realize all this was going to raise such a fuss.... Char On Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 2:06 AM, louise <louise@careyandlouise.com> wrote: > Gosh.. what a surprise. Ok, I finally got it...lol... What happened was, I had linked the Coats Archive in a spot that said website and then left a place for a link...now recall we've been using FTDNA since we started this group a few years back and they have changed their website at least a couple of times on how you access info...what was suppose to go there was the link to the FTDNA public page...no wonder I couldn't find a link to it on any of those pages and couldn't figure out where to access it .... not to mention the number of emails I've gotten over time wanting to know how to get to it...not realizing the web site link FTDNA wanted to go there was the FTDNA public pages.... Anyway....I was able to correct the link they put there and had added me back as an administrator before they changed the password...so you may still see me as the admin but I have emailed them and asked them to take me off as an admin ...so you should see John's name back up there soon, I think... So any questions on the FTDNA site needs to go to him.... Sorry folks, but I thought making the Coats Website available via disk, at a nominal fee would be much better than just taking it down without any avenue for anyone to access all the information that was gathered... Apparently I didn't get the link changed soon enough for FTDNA's purposes....:) The link by the way has been to http://www.coatsarchive.us for at least a couple of years I think, but now it goes to the FTDNA Coats project website... We received a complaint this week that the public website for the Coats DNA project had been taken down and replaced with an advertisement for a genealogy disc. I consulted with my supervisor about this issue, and he advised me to remove you from the position of group administrator immediately. John will now be the sole administrator for the Coats surname project unless he contacts our office and specifies otherwise. The administrator password has been changed. Ah, the family trees are ged files within FTDNA, each person now has the ability to link their specific family to their DNA results...however, you would need to be a participant in the DNA project and match that person... However, you can also access any ged files they have attached to their files via FTDNAs Y-search, if that person has also put their data into that data base...that data base is basically a search and only concludes the kit numbers not the names of those taking the test...and the ged file will show as *living* those for whom there is data but the information has been hidden for privacy issues... So, those of you who are in the DNA group, please add your family ged file to your DNA home page if you would like others to have it or make it available to the public via the Y-search database...you can search that data base by surname as well...so you don't need the exact numbers from the results... You might want to bookmark this link, I didn't see it on FTDNAs home page: http://www.ysearch.org/ Char On Tue, Apr 1, 2008 at 9:59 AM, vance <genquest@earthlink.net> wrote: > There are no links to the family trees for the DNA results. I've gone to the Coats DNA page and it now appears that the only people that can get into the site's data are ones that have participated in the project and have a password. Is that correct? Folks don't forget that I have a lot of census on line as well...but even blogger has started limiting the number of images you can put online....so it's not complete, but there are a lot of indexes there as well... http://coatscensus.blogspot.com/ This should be also set up so that you can post comments there as well... Hi Folks, I have decided to remove the Coats Archive from the web...however, the info is still available on DVD at http://www.lulu.com/content/2266629 or by http://www.coatsarchive.us I named it Vol 2 because this is the current website after it was moved the first time...and some of the duplicate copies of records in SC I didn't get back up...I also missed getting the WVA info onto this disk...but will email it to anyone who needs it.... I am however, preparing a Vol 1 which is just going to be all the documents from SC which will include any that I missed in Vol 2...does that make sense...I will also put the WVA documents on this disk as well as ...I'm going to go through all the old files and see what I missed getting up and add those to this disk as well...may take some time, since I'm indexing the SC records in PDF format for easier viewing... You are indeed free to do with the records as you wish....:) I will also let you know if I find any new info and will add Vol 3 as necessary.... Remember our DNA project is housed at FTDNA.com under Coats so you can view your DNA results there at any time... Any questions please let me know....:) Char -- A shameless plug for my web activities: Support Authentic Cherokee Art - ask for the Artist's Tribal registration number before you buy!!
