    3. I can place this George now. He was married to Martha Irwin. :) He and info on son Joseph are in some Quaker records I found along the way - but didn't note exactly which one. I'm assuming, they can be found in Hinshaw. 3. I am descended from the apparent marriage of Henry Coate to Molly Pitt(s)...in particular through their son Jehu Coate b 1802 Laurens/Newberry Co. SC d 1854 Dekalb/Etowah Co. AL. Henry Coate d 1817...as did his apparent father-in-law Henry Pitt(s). Jehu Coate seems to have had several much older siblings...making me wonder if his mother might not have died in child birth (or very shortly thereafter). Jehu Coate married Mary Johns(t)on about 1826 in Laurens/Newberry SC. Jehu removed his young family to Dekalb Co. AL c1840. From various court records, it appears that Jehu was a store owner...as was one of his sons in later years. There also appears to be a connection between Jehu's family and the family of Isaac Teague...the children of Jehu and Mary Coats are mentioned as legatees of Isaac Teague. Thanks in advance!!! 1. [COATES] Fern Leora Oldham Coates
    2. Christy Fillerup
    3. I am hoping to track down a descendent of Fern Leora Oldham, born 1917 who married Farrell La Vern Coates in 1942. Fern was a cousin of my grandfather and as I understand it she has conducted extensive research on the Oldham side of the family. I have had no success reaching anyone on the Oldham list, but I am hoping to find a Coates descendent here. I am desperate to contact whoever received her research when she passed away as I believe she may be in the possession of a diary or journal that can aid my research. Thank You, Christy Fillerup Millenealogy Family History Research Salt Lake City, Utah www.millenealogy.com

    2. Linda Coate
    3. We have another kit extension in from 12 points to 25 and it's the 3rd time I know of where additional results have moved the person from their original group to another group! I just posted the results at http://www.ancestrees.com/dn/family.html under what is now the group called Hezekiah Coats. In this case it shows 2 different persons that have possible Robert Coates of Massachusetts connections having DNA similarities that would support same. Now the work will be to prove each of the generations back to see if this is their common ancestor. In any case, if you only have 12 points of DNA as a test, it doesn't necessarily confirm that you are in the correct cousin grouping on our Coates DNA page. So far 25 points has been the position where you can at least know that you've been connected to the correct cousins. Thank you goes to all who are continuing to participate and help each other work on your common ancestry! Linda Coate, Admin.

    1. [COATES] James and John R
    2. John Coats
    3. Wife and I were visiting the Courthouse in Eutaw, AL, where I found those land records. Come to think of it, John R. may have been John Rosbura Coats, the ancestor of Odessa Coats Collins, who wrote the Coate, Coates, Coats book. I've been so busy fighting off hospital bills and insurance companies, I hate to open those files again. I just start chasing rabbits. I made copies of numerous land transactions, but I don't believe they were between those two families, but I may be wrong. There is no substitute for "boots on the ground", when looking for original records, so we may be able to go there again, and organize the work better. There is so much info, I'm having a hard time coordinating it, especially in chronological order. John W

    1. [COATES] James Robert and John or Gabriel Garrett Coats and Elijah Coats
    2. Linda Coate
    3. For the James Robert and Major John Coats group, when they lived in the same county in Alabama, have land/deed records been checked to see if they lived near each other or if they witnessed each others documents in deed or court records? If either one of them died in that county in Alabama, were they witnesses in the wills, or were they assigned administration or ***did they make purchases from each other's estate sales? These are all ways to find if they considered themselves somewhat close family. The same goes for the Gabriel Garrett Coats and Elijah Coats group. When and where did they live in the same place and do any of their documents have connections? If this hasn't been done, it's an approach to study the closeness of their relationship, get a better understanding of where their lives intersected - if they grew up together, and find any Coats of the correct age to possibly be their parents. These are ways to get leads on the line. Maybe you know where one of your DNA matches lived when they were young and then it's worth checking to see if your ancestor could have lived there too. Food for thought. Have a great day. I'm going to be helping construct houses for the first time with Habitat for Humanity. Wish me luck. It's going to be close to 90 degrees today. Linda
