    3. We have another test kit back that I'll be getting up this week, plus we have 2 more persons who've ordered tests. Way to go...... The new kit that came back makes for 3 cousin lines that descend from John and Amy Abernathy with all their Y-DNA matching. John if you remember is one of the likely persons to be the son of Big John. Cooollll. Thanks everyone. Linda Coate

    2. Hi Linda: In looking at the kits on the website, I cannot find the kits associated with William Coats of SC. His son, Reverand William Coats, migrated to Callaway County and is the ancestor of Charlotte Coats and me. Can you tell me where to find him (or his line) in the chart? Thanks! Linda A. Myers In a message dated 10/2/2008 12:57:20 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, lcoate@ancestrees.com writes: The new DNA kits and the info I have on them are up at http://www.ancestrees.com/dna/family.html. The two that have info or at least oldest known ancestor appear as the top two groups of our DNA chart this time. I'm still waiting to hear from a third person on their oldest known ancestor. That kit number is at the bottom of our DNA page currently. We have a Tennessee group growing well at this point in time. 3. You can go to http://www.familytreedna.com/public/coats/ and www.ancestrees.com/dna/family.html to see information about the Coats DNA project and to see the results of people with the Coats surname who have already taken the DNA test. To see a picture of a test kit, go to http://www.familytreedna.com/kit.html You can also go to the Family Tree DNA web site and click on the various links to get more information, try clicking on the tab for FAQ. That web site is www.familytreedna.com To be part of the Coats DNA project, you need to buy a test kit and have a male relative who has the Coats or Coates surname take the test for you. Family Tree DNA mails a test kit to that person. They do the test at home and mail it back for processing. Then the results can be posted as part of the Coats DNA project to compare to others to see who you are related to and who you are not. My cousin took a DNA test. So far we do not match to any of the other results. I hope that more people who can trace back their ancestors to Virginia will take the test so we can have more to compare to who might be kin to us. Now would be a good time to do it because the test kits are being offered at a discount price until September 30. 2. Linda Coate
    3. Jackie, Kit's are DNA test kits that check the DNA points that tell you whom your cousins are. They consist of a couple saliva swabs that are sent in to an office that gives them a unique number to maintain anonymity before they are sent on to a University lab with only that kit # for testing. It's a very small number of DNA that are checked for - 12 to 67 points... They aren't points that show medical problems - just male or female cousin lines. For purposes of our Coats group, only males with the surname of Coate/s are able to help us sort our Coate/s ancestors. When we find cousin matches, our points of DNA match, telling us that we have a common ancestor. Does this help? You can view our current results of kit #'s at http://www.ancestrees.com/dna/family.html . You might have a brother, father or cousin that would be interested in contributing to the Coates project and helping you figure out which branch of Coates are your relatives. You can even help purchase their test kit if they interested. :) Linda Coate Jacqueline Spinney wrote: > What is a kit? > Thank you. > Jackie Coates Spinney > > -----Original Message----- > From: coates-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:coates-bounces@rootsweb.com] On > Behalf Of coates-request@rootsweb.com > Sent: Tuesday, September 02, 2008 12:02 AM > To: coates@rootsweb.com > Subject: COATES Digest, Vol 3, Issue 89 > > > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
