    1. [COATE] JAY Family DNA information relating to Coate descendants
    2. Vince King
    3. Since many Coate families tie into this line (particularly those out of the Miami Co. OH area), I wanted to pass this along. Back in April 2009 the Jay Family Association (JFA) published an article to its membership pertaining to the following.... "DNA has now confirmed that Thomas JOY of Hingham, Massachusetts is not an immigrant ancestor to the JAY family in America." This article has now been moved and posted on the public section of the JFA website at www.jayfamily.org. There is a link in the menu at left that will take you directly to the article. If you have additional questions you may email me directly. In addition, the Jay family DNA project and other related family genealogy will be discussed at length at the annual Jay Family Reunion scheduled for October 16-17, 2009 in Troy, OH. The reunion is FREE to all interested...we have several cemetery trips and genealogy presentations slated. More info is available on the gathering at www.jayfamily.org. Come and meet your cousins and have a great time. You won't be disappointed. Vince King Immediate Past-President Jay Family Association entech.design@verizon.net

    1. [COATE] Thomas JOY of Hingham MA and the JAY family DNA Project report
    2. Vince King
    3. Since many Coate families also tie into this line, I wanted to pass this along. As a heads-up, the Jay Family Association (JFA) will be publishing an article in its upcoming April 2009 newsletter pertaining to the following. The article will also be posted on the Members Only Section of the website www.jayfamily.org . It will be moved to the public portion of the website in August 2009. *********************************************************************** !! DNA Confirms that Thomas JOY of Hingham, Massachusetts is not an Immigrant Ancestor to the JAY Family in America !! Recent DNA results have confirmed what experienced JAY family researchers have understood for many years, Thomas JOY of Hingham, Massachusetts (m. Joan Gallup), is not the immigrant ancestor of any of the known colonial JAY families in America. Both the JAY and JOY families in America started DNA projects several years ago and have been testing individuals in an effort to determine the origins and possible kinship of their specific lines. One of the goals was to determine if the JAY and the JOY families were actually related by a common ancestor. More specifically, the JAY DNA project was attempting to prove or disprove a relationship to Thomas JOY of Hingham, MA who migrated to America in 1635 and married Joan Gallup there. While testing will continue and more confirming data will be discovered over the upcoming years, it can now be unequivocally stated no JAY family in America descended from Thomas JOY of Hingham, MA. *********************************************************************** Additionally, the article will discuss and illustrate the 19th century books that were published about Thomas JOY and his descendants before extensive JAY family research began. It will also illustrate how his JOY surname was published for the first time as JAY in November 1928. If you are not a JFA member and have specific questions, you may email me directly entech.design@verizon.net . Vince King Immediate Past-President Jay Family Association www.jayfamily.org

    2. Coats Family History
    3. Ok, I finally got it...lol... What happened was, I had linked the Coats Archive in a spot that said website and then left a place for a link...now recall we've been using FTDNA since we started this group a few years back and they have changed their website at least a couple of times on how you access info...what was suppose to go there was the link to the FTDNA public page...no wonder I couldn't find a link to it on any of those pages and couldn't figure out where to access it .... not to mention the number of emails I've gotten over time wanting to know how to get to it...not realizing the web site link FTDNA wanted to go there was the FTDNA public pages.... Anyway....I was able to correct the link they put there and had added me back as an administrator before they changed the password...so you may still see me as the admin but I have emailed them and asked them to take me off as an admin ...so you should see John's name back up there soon, I think... So any questions on the FTDNA site needs to go to him.... Apparently I didn't get the link changed soon enough for FTDNA's purposes....:) The link by the way has been to http://www.coatsarchive.us for at least a couple of years I think, but now it goes to the FTDNA Coats project website... So John Wayne Coates, you're the new administrator....:) Char ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Nicholas Maier <nickm@familytreedna.com> Date: Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 2:49 PM Subject: RE: Group Admin page To: coats.genealogy@gmail.com Ms. Coats, Thanks for your email. We received a complaint this week that the public website for the Coats DNA project had been taken down and replaced with an advertisement for a genealogy disc. I consulted with my supervisor about this issue, and he advised me to remove you from the position of group administrator immediately. John will now be the sole administrator for the Coats surname project unless he contacts our office and specifies otherwise. The administrator password has been changed. I am however, preparing a Vol 1 which is just going to be all the documents from SC which will include any that I missed in Vol 2...does that make sense...I will also put the WVA documents on this disk as well as ...I'm going to go through all the old files and see what I missed getting up and add those to this disk as well...may take some time, since I'm indexing the SC records in PDF format for easier viewing... You are indeed free to do with the records as you wish....:) I will also let you know if I find any new info and will add Vol 3 as necessary.... Remember our DNA project is housed at FTDNA.com under Coats so you can view your DNA results there at any time...
