I am sending this out to all pages I am subscribing to, mainly because I know there are more individuals out there than this gentleman trying to find information on a relative that served in the US Armed forces. I have just recently done some research on my father's military records. I am no expert on this but I would like to share what information I have found. If the individual you are researching seved in Korea, he/she could be eligible for some other awards. The U.S. Armed forces is not issuing this medal, but authorizing it for wear by Korean Vets. It is only available through civilian market military surplus stores. Vets will not get any notification on this medal. If you have copies of their service records they will reconstruct their records from your copies. I just recently inquired on my father who was in the Army, they did not have his records. They did however reconstruct them off of what we had copies of. The US Armed forces will also send the individual any medals and/or awards they earned while in service. However, they will not send them to the Veteran's family.
