Any clues to his father, heritage, birth/place? NOTE -> After their marriage, Leonard and Elizabeth lived at Wantage, Sussex County, New Jersey then moved with Elizabeth's parents to Norfolk County, Upper Canada. On August 12, 1800, Leonard purchased from John Hewitt 200 acres, Lot 10 Con 8, Townsend Twp. Leonard served as a Grand Juror of the London district court on January 13, 1801, June 8, 1802, June 14, 1803 and December 11, 1804. On December 20, 1804, he purchased from James Forsyth 200 acres, Lot 2 Con 10 Townsend Twp. Leonard filed an Upper Canada land petition dated December 31, 1804, stating that he had been upwards of four years in the province and had a wife and seven children. He had property in the province to the value of L400 Halifax currency consisting of oxen, cows, farming utensils and cash. He requested a grant of land. On July 7, 1812, he sold Lot 2 Con 10, Townsend Twp, to his son Jacob Clouse. Leonard served as a Grand Juror on the London District court on December 10, 1805 and March 10, 1807. On January 13, 1818. he put up a recognizance of L25 for the appearance of B.B. Buck at the next Assizes. The will of Leonard was dated at Townsend Twp on August 10, 1823. Leonard signed with a mark. He left to eldest son Jacob 200a of Lot 2, Concession 10. To son John, he left the north 100 acres of Lot 8 concession 9 and the north 100 acres of Lot 10, concession 8. To son Abram he left the south 100 acres of Lot 10 and the south 100 acres of Lot 11 Concession 8. The south 100 acres of Lot 7, Concession 9 was to be sold and the proceeds divided amongst his 3 sons and 4 daughters. Abram was to support the widow. The daughters were names Anna Hunter, Elizabeth Slaght, Mary Masecar and Sally Masecar. [Andy Shell (Clouse), 2001.] <END
