I have recently discovered that my Frank Klouse spelled it with a K consistently and says he came over in 1880 or thereabouts. I can not discover it spelled that way so must assume he was a KLAUS since I don't believe a K would be used except for Germanic spellings. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Margaret Calvin.

So sorry that so many of you will get duplicates of this. I'm having a problem with my email being bounced and have been dropped from so many of my rootsweb lists for some reason. Apparently my ISP is alternating is addresses and is using two different ones...whatever that means. One of the addresses is not on the accept list of some of the rootsweb lists. Now that I've totally confused you and me both...could list leaders please make sure that I am still on as members for the lists. Thanks. I'd been wondering why on earth all my lists seemed to slow down at one time...not all of them did. Apparently my ISP is freaking them out. Thanks. The following tells me that your isp is using different addresses, which is causing the bounces: >Received: from pimout2-int.prodigy.net (pimout2-ext.prodigy.net >[207.115.63.101]) Kathy in FL mamkmm2@prodigy.net
Are there any descendents on this list a descendent of John Calvin Clouse and Mary Catherine Caroline Gilliam. I just recently returned from Kentucky and might have some items that a cousin was kind enough to give to me while I was there. If anyone is interested please contact me directly. My email address is: ee57@aol.com
I have discovered that my Frank Klouse who married Minnie Parkinson, spelled his name with a K. The census indicates he was born 1866 and came to America 1870 and was from Switzerland. I haven't found a ships list yet. He was in Cincinnati OH in 1910, with an adopted daughter Helen. He is in city directory 1911 and is not in 1913, so he went to Nebraska somewhere in that time frame. He was listed as a photographer in 1900, and a cannery foreman in 1910. Any help would be appreciated. Margaret Calvin.
Hi, I have just posted 8 new tidbits or queries of Clouse information at my site www._myfamilyconnections.homestead.com (Just click on the above link). The information is posted on the Clouse tidbit page. Please take a look at it and see if you can help these different families with information. There are two with the surnames Clause. One is of The George Clouse Sr. family, who had changed their name from Clouse to Clause. One is originally of the Close family, which could possibly tie in with Phettiplace Close. Please email me if you have any information on these families. Thanks, Sheila Rice

Rooting through the Early Pioneer Papers (done as a WPA project in the 1930s) I found an interview with Eli S. Clouse. Copies are available at the main library in Fort Worth TX. Unfortunately, I live in CA. Fortunately, one of my husband's cousins lives just outside Fort Worth, and she went to the library and made me a copy of this interview. I wasn't sure how Eli tied to our Clouse line, but found he is my husband's half 2nd great grand uncle! Eli was born in 1864 in Putnam County TN, the son of Thomas Clouse (born in VA in 1801) and Thomas' 2nd wife. Thomas died when Eli was about 4, and he was raised by his mother and step father. Is there anyone on this list who descends from Eli, or would be interested in this interview? It was done in June 1937, and the title is "Eli S. Clouse, Old Timer". Meg Gentry Bookout
I apologize if anyone has received this information more than once. I am sending this out to all pages I am subscribing to, mainly because I know there are more individuals out there than this gentleman trying to find information on a relative that served in the US Armed forces. I just hope the links work, just in case they dont, I have included the actual web addresses. I apologize for the length and hope it is of some use to someone else. I have just recently done some research on my father's military records. I am no expert on this but I would like to share what information I have found. Here is a reply to a recent inquiry: (Origional Message) While searching some military records for background on a bio I'm writing on a family member, I found the following listed under the heading of "Decorations, Medals, Badges, Commendations, Citations & Campaign Ribbons Awarded or authorized:" Korean Svc Medal AR 600-65 EUSAK Cir 125 25 Dec 50 3 Bronze Stars DA GO 55 1951 1 O/S Bar AR 600-40 GCM w/3 Lps., SOG-30, 516 TCW AFLSA w/2 OLC, AFR 900-10 CCMDL AFR 35-50, 25 Jul 57 Can anyone help me decipher all this? What are each of these medals & commendatiions? What does one have to do in order to obtain these honors? Thank you in advance for any information you may have or for any guidance you may render. Have a Happy Fourth of July! Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com For additional information on this medal check out these websites: <A HREF="http://grunt.8m.com/ksm.htm">Grunt: Korean Service Medal</A> (http://grunt.8m.com/ksm.htm) <A HREF="http://www.usarotc.com/medals/ksm.htm">Korean Service Medal</A> (http://www.usarotc.com/medals/ksm.htm) There is a lot of information on the Form DD214 (Form of Separation) but there is a lot of information that it doesnt have sometimes. If the individual you are researching seved in Korea, he/she could be eligible for some other awards. Good Conduct Medal Republic of Korea Presidential Citation (Awarded by the Korean Government) National Defense Service Medal United Nations Service Medal (Korea) You can find information on all of these medals at the following website: <A HREF="http://www.usarotc.com/awards.htm">Army Awards and Decorations</A> (http://www.usarotc.com/awards.htm) There is also a new award that just recently became available to Korean Vets. The U.S. Armed forces is not issuing this medal, but authorizing it for wear by Korean Vets. It is only available through civilian market military surplus stores. Vets will not get any notification on this medal. This is the link for more information on it: <A HREF="http://asa.npoint.net/newmedal.htm">Republic of Korea War Service Medal</A> ( http://www.usarotc.com/medals/kpuc.htm) If the individual you are researching was in the Army or Air Force there is a good chance that there records were destroyed in a fire at the St. Louis storage facility in 1973. If you have copies of their service records they will reconstruct their records from your copies. I just recently inquired on my father who was in the Army, they did not have his records. They did however reconstruct them off of what we had copies of. The US Armed forces will also send the individual any medals and/or awards they earned while in service. However, they will not send them to the Veteran's family.
