    3. Do you have any locations? A state, maybe? That would help narrow it down. I have a few Saras in my data, but not one born 1843, but maybe I can help anyway. 1. GENEOLOGY SCAMS--- BOOKS & FAMILY CRESTS
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zIJ.2ACEB/310 Message Board Post: Recently I purchased a "family crest & coat of arms" and when I went home to tell of my achievements on what I thought was legitiment I found out that I like many others had been scammed. For 1 there is no set "family crest" for one family name and 2 this is a very popular scam that is easily read upon on the internet. The company that I bought the info from was based in Florida but had a stand here in Ohio where I reside. The other common scam is the "book of _____" where the ___ refers the family name. Many generations above me purchased the book thinking that it was legitimate from a company here in Ohio was very dissapointed to find that when he received it all it contained was living addresses of all the clouses in the US and their phone numbers if they had any. I want to warn each and all of you of these scams and that you can find them if you type in geneology scams in the search bar of your internet browser. Please beware of these scams. I only was ripped out of $20 ! but my great uncle spent much more and so have others. Please spread this message to other sites and links that you may have so that everyone is aware. We cant keep everyone from spending money or get the spent money back but we can at least stop a few. I hope you all take this seriously. :)

Alvin said that the book only goes back to Phettiplace Clouse. He came to America in 1608 on the ship called "Starr." He was German. He is one of my great grandfathers from way back. I haven't come across any other information that would show any other members of our family coming from Germany, but who knows! Maybe the families are joined in Germany before Phettiplace came to America. Here is a website that shows some of the people that would be in that book: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Forest/4572/Clouse.html Well, good luck on your quest and contact me if you ever need any help! I have a website that might help you with your Clouse search for the time being: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Forest/4572/Clouse.html It ha soe very useful information following the Clouse family back to Germany! Surnames: CLOUSE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zIJ.2ACEB/8.17.134.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Apparently Jacob Clouse and Emmeline Crouch were married during the period for which the Illinois Statewide Marriages Database does not have the records for Lawrence County. I'm sorry I don't know anything more about them. I will be viewing the microfilm on Lawrence County marriages at the nearby LDS Family History Center, and that is one of the couples I'll be looking for. I'm quite sure that John and William Clouse were brothers, but have not been sure about Jacob, though I think it's a near-certainty that he was their brother. The parents of my great-grandmother, Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" Clouse (1) Allen (2) Hornback, were John Clouse and Harriett Parker. They had four children that I know of - William H., Betsy, Joseph Marion and Elijah, before the death of John Clouse. After he died, Harriett Parker Clouse married John Weger on April 30, 1865, and had several more children. William Clouse, brother of John Clouse, married Sarah I. Parker. The spouses of John and William were possibly sisters or maybe cousins. I am descended from both William and John Clouse, as John's daughter Betsy married James Riley Allen and one of her younger sons, Luther Sherman Allen, married his second cousin, Gladys Cordelia Montgomery, daughter of Mary Frances Clouse (William and Sarah's daughter) and Andrew Jackson Montgomery. The mothers of Luther and Gladys, who were my grandparents, were first cousins. I have some old photographs of Betsy Clouse Allen Hornback, and a stern portrait of Mary Frances Clouse Montgomery. If I discover anything further about Jacob Clouse, I will post it.
