Good to hear from you! I don't have much more than I had when we last talked, unfortunately. My cousin found a family Bible that had some information about my direct line, but no one earlier than John. I have next to nothing about the Clouse line. I thought Neil was going to send me some Clouse information, too, but he never did. So, I'm still stuck at the brick wall. I have retired (for the time being, anyway), and am getting my house ready to sell. One of the things that I need to do is work on the pictures. I'll send you Goodhearts as I find them. I am beginning to identify them, and many of them are Goodhearts.

It has been a very long time since we last talked! I have tried to get in touch, but with no success til now. You know me as Bobbie....married to Mike in Houston & we have shared some info before. You sent us some great pics. I have talked to a Neil (? forgot his last name) from the message boards who is related to the Clouse's, but can't make a for sure connection with our Sarah. I've seen on the family trees that you have a great deal & I would like to compare notes with you again if you want! Really looking forward to talking with you...reply soon.......Bobbie

Surnames: Klaus, Claus, Clouse, Schmidt, Neff, Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zIJ.2ACEB/313 Message Board Post: I am looking for the possible family of Michael Clouse who was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania about 1846. At some point in his life he moved west. In 1914, when his brother Herman passed away, he was listed in Herman's obituary as living in Denver, CO. But the 1920 census for Colorado does not show a Michael Clouse, nor does the 1910 Denver City directory. Michael's father was Michael Klaus (Claus/Clouse) born 11 JAN 1800. His mother was Maria Eva Schmidt Clouse, born 8 APR 1811. Both of his parent were born in Germany about the time of their marriage in the early 1830's. Michael had sisters, Elizabeth Neff (lived in IL) and Mary Schmidt/Smith (in PA), and brothers George (lived in IL), Herman, Joseph and Francis. Herman and Joseph both died bachelors. The last census information I have for George in 1900 shows him to be a single man. If Michael married and had children, he and Francis were the only two to produce heirs to the Klaus/Claus/Clouse name. Appreciate any help anyone can give! Thanks! My father, Dale Clouse, was born in Miller, South Dakota. His father, William Alexander Clouse, was born in Ree Heights, South Dakota. That is were birthplaces ends. I recently learned that my great-grandfather had to change his name some at some time in the 1800s because there were people after him that wanted to kill him. His name was Joseph Alexander. It is rumored that he or his family was from Russia. Origianally from Germany. Thank you for any help you can give me.

My gggf was Charles Clouse, immigrant from Alsace, who went from Erie Co NY to Iowa. One of his sons (mysteriously to me) lived in Minnesota briefly and had a child who was born there. I am seeing hints that this was a laarge family of brothers who gradually moved to Ohio and NY in the 1840s. Some stayed in Ohio and some dispersed across the country, like mine. I have not been able to find any firm documentation, but I suspect that your Charles and mine were related. Thanks.

He had four children: Goldie, Lisle, Cecil, and Leon. They are related to me through the ROSE line (Aunt Matt --Martha Ann Rose was my ggrandmother's sister). Goldie married Ern Clute and is buried in San Diego, CA. Lisle married Ed Holmquist and is buried, I believe, in Brawley, CA. Leon Clouse and his wife Minnie JOHNSON are both buried here in the Fort Ripley, MN cemetery. They had one daughter who died at age 16 and a son who was stillborn. Leon and my father were cousins. There are a few pages of biography on Leon Clouse at the Brainerd, MN Crow Wing County Historical Society, but they do not go into his family history before he came to Fort Ripley, MN.

There are many CLOUSE names in Ohio where I grew up. My Frank KLOUSE according to census, was born in Switzerland, and came to America in 1872. If he was from Switzerland, would the name have been KLAUS? And this list would not be the appropriate place to search? I assume he used the "K" because of Klaus. I have tracked him in Ohio until 1912. He was in Nebraska according to family members. But I have been unable to locate him - or anyone that appears to be him - in Nebraska on the 1920 census. He married Minnie (Arminta) Parkinson in Ohio. They had an adopted daughter in the 1910 census in Cincinnati, Ohio. Any thoughts, suggestions for searching etc.would be most appreciated. I have not found him on a passenger list. I do have two or three other people who spell their name KLOUSE. They are in an area where there are also CLOUSE names. Thanks for any thoughts. Margaret Calvin.

I have volumes of information on John-he was killed in the Civil War. I look forward to hearing from you. It's so nice to find another Goodheart Cousin!. ellen
