Geri - I am unaware of a Nancy Clouse & John Webb marriage, but I do know that there was a Clouse/Webb connection in Marion Co, in the 1880's. This is from my notes on my 2GGF, John A. Clouse, of Mario Co.: From a Marion Co. History: 1882 members of Macedonia Baptist Church at Shellmound includes: John A. Clouse, Nannie Clouse, G. W. Clouse, Lydia Clouse, G. B. Clouse,Eliza Clouse, Ellen Clouse, Jane Clouse, Anna Clouse, Susan E. Clouse, (Salie Cureton and Robert Cureton,) G. W. Clouse Jr., Also indicated John A. & Nannie Clouse were parents of Mrs. Sudie Webb and grandparents of Miss Ethel Webb. - also parents of Anna Clouse who was mother of Mrs. J. H. Graham and Miss Ailie Burnett. Eliza Clouse was mother of J. E. Clouse of Whiteside. Also shown is a map of Shellmound indicating that Vence Clouse lived next to the Clouse Cemetery on Shellmound Road in 1917. James E. Clouse was Postmaster of Whiteside from 20 Nov. 1911 to 1 Oct. 1943 when James Clouse Jr. became Postmaster until 15 Oct. 1971. 1880 Census Place District 8, Marion, Tennessee Family History Library Film 1255269 NA Film Number T9-1269 Page Number 264D John A. He was the oldest son of George Clouse, II or Sr. and wife Elizabeth. He was listed in Washington County, Tennessee Tax Rolls along with his father in 1798 with four in family. He continued to pay taxes there through 1808. On Feb. 26, 1799 he attended a sale to settle the estate of a Samuel Culberton. He bought a cow and calf. His father and brothers, Elijah and John also attended the sale. His whereabouts between 1808 and 1830 are unknown at present. In the census of 1830 he was listed as being between fifty and sixty with one male child between fifteen and twenty. He was still living in Marion County in 1840 and was listed as being between sixty and seventy years old. He was living with another male which was evidently the male who was with him in 1830. He was listed in 1840 as being between twenty and thirty. His wife was between twenty and thirty and he had two male children under five. George, II had apparently died between 1840 and 1850 because he was not listed in the 1850 Census. Hi Sheila! My husband is your 4th cousin. He is the grandson of Fred Clouse, who was the s/o Isaac Wesley "Gus" Clouse, who was the s/o of John Clouse, who was your William Riley Clouse's brother. I have a picture of Fred, but none further back up the line. Fred's dad (Gus) left TN to go to TX and lost touch with that side of the family. Gus died in OK in 1908 and Fred moved to the Sapulpa area (near Tulsa) where his daughter (my husband's mom) was born in 1919. Another family connection is through the Randolph line-Dudley's mom was Lucilla Randolph, and my husband has Randolphs from White County in hus ancestry, too. His 2nd g-grandma was Elizabeth Randolph who married GW Barger. Their daughter Margaret Malinda Barger married Gus Clouse in 1878 in White Co TN. Good luck in your search-let me know if you turn up any pics! Meg Gentry Bookout Sheila Rice wrote: > I am a descendant of Dudley Mansfield Clouse. I only have Thomas Clouse (no other info except name) as the father of George Washington Clouse (1740-1810). Last time I heard there has been NO substantiated proof that Thomas is in the Phettiplace Clouse line. If that proof has been found, I'd like to hear what it was. Assumed, but never proven. George Washington Clouse married Elizabeth Jarvis and had a son named John Dillard Clouse (b. 1775 in VA - d. 1859 White Co., TN) Kathy Gus Clouse <gus42@charter.net> wrote: Does anyone have information on a Thomas Clouse. I have he was born in 1710 in White County, Tn. I do not have his parent's names nor his wife's. I have his children as Christopher Clouse and George Clouse. I have Christopher born 1776 and George about 1740. That is allot of years between children, so I wonder if this is correct. Christopher is listed as being born in Pennsylvania and married Anna Catherine Hench. George is listed as being born in Virginia and marrying Elizabeth Jarvis. Thomas is from the line of Phettiplace Clouse. Thomas would have been my ggggggrandfather. Thanks.
