The James Clouse in question [b. ca. 1859 in MO] was the son of Aaron & Ellen Clouse. In the 1880 census they were living next to another James Clouse [b. ca. 1847 in TN] and his wife, Mary. Aaron, as was James, born in Tennessee. I have looked at these families in the past and have not proven their origin, but I have SPECULATED that James b. ca. 1847 is the son of Henry George & Elizabeth Ann Walker Clouse of Claiborne Co., TN. They had a James born in 1847 in Tennessee and the family moved to Missouri. Both parents died in the 1860's in New Hampton, Harrison Co., MO. I have nothing on Henry having had a brother named Aaron but I am looking for that connection. Hi Jim- Did you e-mail Lavonne directly, too? She may not subscribe to the Clouse list. I noticed her original query came from the Ancestry boards. I have 3 George W. Clouses in my files, too! I didn't have any dates for the one who was the s/o William and Elizabeth, but the time frame seemed to fit. Thanks for the dates from your files. My mother in law's Clouse line was from TN and also went to OK, via TX-her father was Fred Clouse, s/o Isaac Wesley, s/o John, s/o Thomas J. Lavonne Of the George Washington Clouses in my file, there are three that could be the George in question. One was born ca. 1770 and is less likely to have joined the fight. He also had moved to Marion Co., TN before that time - ca. 1820. Another was his son, born ca. 1808 and also in Marion Co. at the mentioned time. These are my Clouses and I have no knowledge of their having been in the Indian Wars. The last, and most likely, was the son of William & Elizabeth Laudermilke Clouse and was born October 14, 1813 in Washington Co., TN. He married Nancy Ann McInturf in Knox Co., Tn in 1836 and died in Webster Co., MO April 02, 1889. I know of no Phoebe to be connected to any of the G. W. Clouses in my file. There was an Ables family in Marion Co., in 1850 and later. I know of no connection between these Ableses and my Clouses. You do not state whether or not your mentioned Phoebe was to have been married to George. Do you have them married???? My Frank KLOUSE/KLAUS was also a photographer and lived in Licking co OH and also Ashville, OH. He eventually went west and got out of the photography business. His wife's brother was with him for a while. Just thought it was a coincidence. Many of our family photos have Klouse on them. Our families are definitely related. In fact, I believe that William was my 4greatuncle, brother to George W. (my 3ggrandfather), and I have been trying to locate William's descendants to confirm this. We definitely need to talk! I believe I also know who William and George's father was. Not only that, but I know of two other Clouses that married Rosses. It will be interesting to compare families and most likely find out that they are all related! Please e-mail me back directly when you get a chance at armstrong2224@mchsi.com. Thanks! Cathy
