Dear cousins .... Please take a look at two emails written to me by Roxanne Fatula Paul <[email protected]>. I'll bet someone can help her -- and maybe fill in some blanks for some of the rest of us also. One of these emails is from 2001 and the other is from yesterday. Here are her two emails to Ellen Crawford and me: >From: [email protected] >Date: Fri, 9 Nov 2001 22:41:52 EST >Subject: May be a clue to Jerry & Jeremiah??? >To: Tom Cloud <[email protected]>, [email protected] > >Tom & Ellen, > >I have been reading the website which contains the Jeremiah you both speak of... > >As you know, my Great grandfather Jessie Warren Cloud was the son of Jerry Cloud. Jerry's father is known to be a Jeremiah Cloud. Also, that Jessie was born in Cal Junction, Tx on Apr 29, 1896. It has been told that Jerry came from Texas into LA and Jessie use to visit relatives in Texas on many occasions. > >The reason for the email is section on the website LOOSE ENDS..... > >No. 18 mentions a woman by the last name of Freeman. This name alerted me to my notes. The family that Jessie visited was a sister by the name of Ollie Cloud Freeman. She had 3 daughters named Mary Joe, Betty Joe and Dixie. Family members says that one of the daughter could still be living but did know the married names of these daughters. > >I did find out that Jessie's mother, Mary Lou Brack, remarried a man by the last name Owens when Jerry was shot. (Have to out Census for Owens to find my jessie with mother) I am going to locate the newspaper article on the Jerry Cloud killing tomorrow along with an Obit for my Jerry. As far as I know Jerry's father stay in Texas, there is no mentioned of where he was at in family lure. However, there is a Jeremiah at age 71 in the 1860 LA Census....???.... > >****WHY WAS JESSIE BORN IN TEXAS?????? > >Talk to you guys later, I have some serious researching to do tomorrow. Ellen, I think you might be onto something here. If you have some way to look at who maybe still living in Cal Junction (Freeman family)....my father said they could be still living on an old home place there.??? She would be a sister to Jessie, daughter of Jerry.... > >something to look at... >Roxanne >From: [email protected] >Date: Thu, 1 May 2003 21:04:34 EDT >Subject: J.W. Cloud >To: Tom Cloud <[email protected]> > >Dear Mr. Tom, > >Hello, it has been sometime since I have written you concerning my Louisiana Cloud's. I am still working hard on this line and I have come upon one snag in the line. I have most of my line confirmed but one small part. It has taken a lot of effort to get this point but I have enjoyed every minute. > >Recently, I made a trip to Newton in Newton Co., Texas to research my Jeremiah "Jerry" Cloud who married Mary Lula Brack in 1889. The marriage license has J.M. Cloud & M.L. Brack names on file. I am still at a lost as to what the intial "M" stands for in J.M. Cloud but this is my Jerry Cloud in Newton, Tx in 1889. Another record found in Newton Co. was the Land Patent dated 1894...it was connected to the Brack land near town of Newton...I am pretty sure this belong to my Jerry Cloud, as the name on this document was J.M.Cloud. I also found Jerry & Mary Lula Cloud's son Jessie W. Cloud (my great-grandfather) birth record in Burksville, Newton Co., Texas in 1895. In this record, it help to confirm Jerry was born in Louisiana and my great-grandfather born in Texas like the verbal history was told to me. And finally, I did confirm the story through Lake Charles, LA newspaper of era concerning the Jerry Cloud killing. He did return to LA where he resided sometime before 1! 901 because he was shot & killed in 1901 near Oakdale, LA as two article mention he was resident. So my line is falling place with family oral history and documents. > >But I have ran across a two question that I hope you can help me answer. > >While researching the BRACK line, I ran across the 1880 Census #241, Prec1, Newton Co. Texas for > >Cloud, J. W. age 34 born Miss >Elizabeth age 35 born Tex >Eugenia 7 " >Alice 4 " >Joseph 8/12 " > >Who is this Cloud??? He is not on 1890 Census and I do not know if he was related to my line or could be the Texas Jeremiah & wife Elizabeth...HELP! > >The J.W. Cloud (above) is not my Jerry because I have my Jerry on Louisiana 1880 Census at age 17 with his widowed mother Lucina Cloud and two brother's Noah & Jessie W. Cloud. > >Now for the SNAG in my line: >I have an "odd ball" Jerry Cloud that shows up in Louisiana 1880 Census, Calcasieu Parish T9-0449. Shows: > >Mary Cloud age 43 born LA (widowed) >Jerry Cloud 14 born LA (son) > >I can trace this Jerry Cloud from 1880 up to his death in 1954. This Jerry marries twice in the area and all his children's names are very different then the descendant names found down my Cloud line. But I do not find a Mary married to any of the other Cloud men in my line. I am thinking maybe this Mary could have been the spouse of a Cloud from out of state. But who? > >This Mary Cloud does live next to the 1/2 brother of my "Jerry" Cloud, named Walter Cloud, but no one in area knows of this Mary Cloud or what her Cloud spouse name could be or how related. And on the 1910 LA Census for this "odd ball" Jerry Cloud, it is given under father "unknown". Needless to say, this "odd ball" Jerry has created some very alarming family charts where they are re-placing my Jerry Cloud(mother Lucina) for this other Jerry Cloud(mother Mary). > >So, if anyone is looking for a lost spouse (wife)... >she could be in Louisiana. > >Well, I hope I did not confuse you on the notes but I wanted to update you on my line in Louisiana. I will send you a copy when completed, along with documentation. Thanks for your time and I appreciate any help. > >Roxanne Fatula Paul ================================= Tom Cloud
